I made an appointment for Tuesday at the loval VW dealership. Thanks to a fellow poster here, he recommended a mechanic by the name of Paul, who is an old Vanagon owner himself.
If I had the military 181 out of the garage, I'd do it myself and save a bundle, but I don't have the space to do it right.
I agree with the posts that if it's done right, and non-phosphorus/distilled water is used as a flush every two years, this leak will not come back for a long time.
For my piece of mind, I'd rather get those gaskets and heads checked/replaced and not have to worry about leaking in this area again. _________________ Current VW drives: 1984 Westfalia

I believe that this is the wiser of the two possible solutions.
Your not going to be masking the real problem, and your not going to cause any more problems by adding coolant system miracle in a can.
Yea--it will cost a bunch more than a buck ninty nine, but your gonna be all done with the job & you can call yourself Pontious Pilot on this one--washing your hands of the obvious head seal problems for quite some time.
Good Move. _________________ T.K. |
