Ok, if you say so. Actually what didn't get coated survived better. I have to give credit to the body guy, as he gives a new meaning to bondo bucket. I only say that because I've got a 3 gallon bucket full of bondo pieces that have come off the car (other than those pieces I lost somewhere between Twin Falls and Utah). I haven't pealed the "skim coat" layer off the cowl)it's at least 1/8th inch thick or better), or off the front fenders yet, but that would add to the bucket some more. It almost makes me wonder what's under the rear fenders Tram got. I think he thought bondo was a permanent repair, as he used plenty, along with a bunch of brass rod (brazing). _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

Bob -
I have the cut up carcass of Jane1 (71 Fasty) still in my garage. There might be some useful sheet metal left on it. I can snap some pics when I get home next weekend. Unfortunately, she was pretty rusty too.
I also have the license plate light housing seal sitting in my living room, still. I will send it your way when I get home.
Good luck with the project. _________________ Later,

Oh, I'm looking for a few piecs, but I didn't know how soon you'd be ready to cut up that 69. I mean I did give you a couple of differnt ideas to play with. Yeah, your 71 is almost as bad as mine. Fortunately my tetnus shots are up to date, and I'm used to working on rusty Michigan vehicles. |
I just need to find a storage place for all my glass. I think I have someone coming to get the rear suspension out of it, in a couple weeks, so we will have to unload it to get that out. _________________ Society is like stew. Made more progress today (sorry no pics, as they are still in my film camera), got the frame head swapped out, and started fitting the pans. Actually they are stitched in, and I can actually stand on the floor, and not step thru. Looks like I'll be starting to put the body back on in a few days, so I can fit the 2 halfs together (I'll be pulling it back off to do some other work though). _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

Progress update; pans are welded in, and front clip, and the rocker/heater channels are bolted into place (just like it was supposed to). Also added the doors to help align the rear half. Still no pics, as I just finished the roll. They should come in the next couple of days.
Brian, IF you talk John into doing a tech session, we'll be ready. Might have to have him make 2. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

Progress update...got the back half in place, and tacked to the front half. It's also got all it's bolts in place too. Sorry no pics of todays work, but here are a couple from earlier this week. Enjoy.
Oh, and don't mind my looks in this one, as it was a very long day (8.5 hours at work, then getting a bunch of work done out in the shop), as I think this shot was taken about 12:30 AM, after getting up at 5am.
Well at least it looks like a car again. Now the standard rust repair work can begin. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

Looking good.
And that is the way he tests his floor pans. He jumped up and down on mine to test it after he welded it.
By the way Bob, I found out why we went thru so much gas. The regulator diaphram had a hole in it. Got a new one, and a new ground cable.
Send me your address, so I can send that pan section.

Bob, you rascal, your fireworks were going off in your garage the day before July 4th with all that welding! Amazing! You are really ambitious and I wish you perseverence with the project. Hope to see it in Saline "in ANY shape"!
Next time you're in a photo, wear a nautical cap so we can call you "Cap'n Krunch"!

Yeah, I was sparking up the garage alright. I had a customer job on the 4th that I had to take care of too (paint a roof and hood on a s-10 4door Blazer). It should be in Saline, but I just don't know what color yet, or if it'll be t-3 or t-4 powered (still need a solid lifter cam, and lifters for the t-4 engine, as someone had put hydro's in a non hydro case ). It will have FI though. I was thinking about polishing the dead finish (both colors), and just priming off the rest, and rolling it. But then I've also thought about shooting it either Peru green, or Nutria brown, just to be different. Either would look good on it though, but I just can't make up my mind. It'll tell which it wants when it gets closer to being done. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

Yeah, I figure if it'll hold my fat ass, it'll hold a battery without any problems. And here it was I thought we were welding for 3+ hours on a used tank. At least you fixed it, along with the ground cable clamp (it did get pretty warm), so you should be able to dial it in a little more (for you), and be all set to attack those multiple projects that are stacking up. You've got p-mail. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

Bob, how about Peru Green with white interior and Porsche 914 5.5" steel wheels like I have on my Ghia? By the time you finish the welding and bodywork, you'll have changed your mind 5x on the final color... |

I really do like the Peru green, as the first t-3 I can ever remember seeing was that color, and I've always had a soft spot for it. I was thinking about adding my rims and tires that are currently on the Roadster 2, and rolling it. Those rims are like the ones you had on your Fastback (at the 2004 T3I), but without the centers being painted black (mine are all white). I think it would look good with the green color, and the stock hub caps. It is a "late" t-3 Notch, so it'll be an odd ball where ever it shows up. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof
