Hey... making money so that I can support my volkswagen addiction and give Sharky 2 life she dereves... hahaha.. how are ya buddy Tram? |
Dong, YOU of ALL people should know this thread is worthless without pics. You know we like seeing construction pics as well as finished (ideally before, during, and afters) ones. After all, you kept bugging me while I was working on the 71 Notch for new pics, even if the ones I had just posted WERE the newest ones.
Come on, you can't just tell us Sharky2 is getting some much needed love and then leave us hanging. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

@Bobnotch .... Objection Sustained.. Yes I know that I was not able to update everyone here of the pictures. To be honest, my old Samsung phone got corrupted; hence, the pictures that I took when Sharky 2 was towed were damaged. I have one video on file that I have to upload it in a video provider soon. I have some pictures to be posted now of Sharky 2 which I took when Sharky 2 was already at the shop of my friend. Sorry for keeping every one hanging, especially Bobnotch!
It really saddened me to have lost the pictures that were taken when Sharky 2 left the house.
@ Tram..... I may be a Lawyer by profession here in the Philippines, but I guess I have a lawyer here at the Samba, in the person of Counsellor/Attorney Tram, Esq. Thanks Old Buddy for being n excellent defense Lawyer. Just send me the billings for your Attorney's Fees!

Some more pictures:
@Bobnotch, Tram and the rest of my Type 3 buddies! Cheers!
The last time I painted a VW was when I fixed my '67 Split Bus. It took me one year to finish that project.
https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=539202&highlight=
But this time, I am still undecided whether to handle the psinting personally or just ask a painter to do it for me. I need to think about it this time because I will spend so much time and the efforts that I will pour into it will be massive and enormous!
I have lots of priorities now... family is on my priority list! ... I am not getting younger each day!...
I will update you buddies!
Thanks,
Dong

WOW, you aren't messing around with it are you. Your "shop" looks almost as cluttered as my own. Looks like you're taking it to bare metal, but not sealing it back up to keep it from rusting. I know it's got to be humid there, and that alone will cause it to surface rust.
Nice job on tearing it down and digging deep. Look forward to seeing more pics.
P.S. None of us are getting any younger. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

Yeah, every inch of Sharky 2 will have to be attended to. But, I thing I will still go for a resto-custom theme.
That my friend's VW shop. Wifey wont like a messed up garage for so long a time. Just like when I restored "Iky" my '67 splitbus:
This was me when I restored the bus: It was fun but so time consuming! Hahaha!
I think I will have to pass doing that one this time

|
|
I recently visited Sharky 2 at the shop and she was getting the blast of her life... so to speak.. The body repair is finished and the painting phase is looming on the horizon.. These are the pictures I took. I need any input buddies or any suggested corrections before we can finally close the body repair chapter.
This angle show that everything has is in place, save the rusty look that will be addressed soon.
The spare tire compartment had to be fixed too. So many rusts. I am relieved that the repair turned out well.
That familiar, yet not so famous portion, of the the fastback is the spot I love the most! To other Fasty owners too for sure!
A farther shot of that lovely (arguably) angle of Sharky 2 is perfect!
The trunk is not spared! Rust everywhere!
The spare tire portion is looking alright.
The under the dash portion had to be repaired too!
Rear portion seems okay to me!
The custom ragtop is waiting to be installed in the future!
The pan was replaced in its entirety including the side members!
The engine compartment is the spot that I admire! Additional spare for hauling your type 3 stuffs!
This one is completely replaced with new sheet of metal! Looks perfect to me!
This dummy muffler grills is a totally hand made affair! Awesome!
Space ship ready to take off... just for fun!
Guys, please give me your inputs on the repair if there are areas that needs to be revisited and adjusted. So also, Sharky 2 is a big canvass that I am still undecided on the color. I love original Type 3 hues, any suggestions?
Thanks,

Nice work!
I've always wondered why nobody has cut out those two seat back braces, and adapted a Squareback fold-down rear seat into a Fastback or Notchback.

I think they look really good in Green or Blue.
Keeping with the 1966 color palette, I'd paint it either Delta Green or VW Blue _________________ 1988 Ford Festiva L

I have been thinking about it. Remove the cross section and the speaker cover, install a Square back seat, and you have a bigger hauling space for it! Cool one.. I think I will do that!

Or sea blue, since sharks live in the sea... or even a period MB color like DB268 "Blue Green":
