Does anyone know of a quality place where I can have some steel wheels restored?

Sandblast & powdercoat? or Cut apart, replate & weld back together?

Separate, re-chrome, change to a narrower hoop.(4-lug Sprintstars).

Used to be, about 5 yars ago, Stockton Wheel in ( where else?) Stockton, CA, did that, cut the centers out with a lathe, and then welded them back into the barrel of your choice of width.

Thanks Dave, I would like to go a little narrower than they offer. They can only go to 6" width in that diameter rim. I know ISP West has done them for me before but they are really backed up at the moment. Cool

When I brought all the wheel parts to the Chrome platers, I initially had 10 outter hoops done. I have since sold 4 & have kept 5 for myself. If you need a single Chrome hoop, I still have one left available

I had Western Wheel here in Fresno do mine years ago. I actually had 4 4.5 5 lugs and had two changed to 6 inch. Wheel Vintiques here in town used to do them for Dave Orozco also. Those ones done by Randar look nice too. Chrome is sooo much nicer than silver paint.

How do they re-attach the centers once they are chromed or Powder Coated?

If you're going the powdercoating route, no need to cut apart the wheel(s)

As for the Chrome wheels, Randar Wheels first true'd them up then TIG welded them together.

Thanks for the tip on Randee@Randar. I have dealt with him in the past although I didn't realize he also does restoration.

Just got off the phone and the rims will be shipped to him on Monday. That solves that issue, as anyone that has dealt with him knows he does only top quality work and cares about his customers and his name.

Thanks for starting this thread Jim!!. I got a few of those factory 'Sport-style steel wheels that go on sunbugs and late model verts that will need to have the rims replaced, but the center's are still good and was wondering who can do this or if it could be done!!... But was afraid to ask!. (Would have hated to throw these wheels away becuase of the bad rims!. These type are not getting any easier to find in good condition as the years keep going by!!)

Will check into this! Very Happy

I am 48 years old and when I was a teen in the seventies messing with VW's, we threw so much "junk" away that we felt was unnecessary. Now I pay through the nose for the same stuff! Crazy. Cool
