If its not one thing, its another. Seems like ive been using this forum alot lately. Anyways, ive been having random no start problems. I have an 85 auto westy with a subaru 2.2. Today it wouldnt start for my wife. I tried jump starting it and that didnt work, so i believe my battery is good. I finally got it to turn over by using a jumper wire from the spade terminal on the starter to the main post on the starter. Im thinking its either my ignition switch or the neutral safety switch. What is the best way to narrow down the source? If it is the neutral safety switch, can I just bypass it? Thanks again, Josh |

Nevermind. Just answered my own question. It was the ignition switch. |

Well it wouldnt start again. Jumped the starter posts to get it started again. My question this time is, if it will start by jumping the starter posts can I eliminate a ground as the cause? Thanks |

That would be my conclusion.
Are these problems on a cold engine, hot engine or both? |

Still dealing with this random no start issue. I have so far replaced the ignition switch and key/tumbler. I have tested the neutral safety switch and it tests good. I replaced the starter when i did my subaru conv with a porsche bosch sr68x. The solenoid was busted during shipping, so i replaced it with some new unknown brand solenoid off ebay. I can always start it by crossing the terminals on the starter. Would being able to start it this way eliminate the starter solenoid as the cause? _________________ 85 auto westy w/ EJ22 (sold)

I would have bought a bosch solenoid if one was available without the starter motor. This solenoid was my only option. Still, would the starter turn over by jumping the solenoid posts if the solenoid was bad? _________________ 85 auto westy w/ EJ22 (sold)
