This T2 bearlock system was developed here in the Netherlands. It is based on the T3 system. The Dutch Bearlock dealer was very nice and is a big VW enthousiast. But i'm sure Bearlock UK could help you out! Its a great lock, easy to use and approved by insurance companies here in the Netherlands. |
I can find references to the Bearlock transmission-selector lock system in The Netherlands and USA, but nothing for the United Kingdom.
Several dealers in The Netherlands, seem to this system, but unfortunately, their Internet websites are all in Dutch!
Was this the Dutch BearLock dealer with whom you dealt?

Hi everyone, live from Xi'an China right now. So, we made it to China, we got about 15.000 km behind us and 1500 or so to go. just 3 more days of driving and we should reach Beijing.
I can rant on an on and on about everything we have experienced but I don't have the time for that now, it's 0:10 here and I we're leaving at 7 AM, so I'm gonna get some sleep. I just posted some news on the amsterdam beijing website but it's in Dutch so you'll have to bear with me and just look at the images for now
So far only one part went bad on the entire car and that's the air flow meter, after a few days of dusty roads dust got into it and wore out the wiper arm's track. we cleaned it a few times but after two days it got really annoying and we had to replace it. I duck taped the cap on to seal the replacement. So far so good.
Only thing we are worrying about now is our left rear wheel bearing assembly, it has developed about 1 cm of play at the outside of the wheel, it started about 6000 km back and it has been getting worse since, the tire is starting to wear and so is the drum. However no noises from the bearing yet so we are keeping our fingers crossed for the next days. We actually planned on replacing it but when we took the entire bearing assembly apart a couple of days ago we found out we forgot the box with the bearings
The engine is great so far, however we still have the temperature problems we had ever since the engine was brand new. Oil temperatures can rise up to 280F sometimes, CHT is not so much of a problem since our crusing speed usually does not exceed 65. I have to say the bus is probably extremely heavy carrying all the lugage, usually 2 passengers besides us, so 4 people riding in total and carrying all our crap including spare parts, oil, water and gas. Anyway, an external cooler would have been a good idea

Drove into Beijing the 10th of August! The car is now waiting to be shipped from Tianjin Harbour. Should be loaded the 24th of August.
Thanks everybody for your support and positive feedback during the entire project! Greatly appreciated. Couldn't have done it without you Sambanista's! THANKS
Anyway, we're here enjoying the olympics! Really great!
Just want to leave you with one pic of our 'official' finish at the Holland Heineken House in Beijing. Once we get back to the Netherlands a complete trip report will follow! Cheers!
