If you dont have a vacuum take off from the webers there your stuck with mechanical advance only
youhave three main options,

1: A "good" 009

2: A good used 010 (for the more agressive advance curve and better build quality)

3: a mallory unilite

Bosch 019 or 010. Ask Dave (Blankmanage) how a 019 fixed his flat spot.

Will a mallory fit under the lid of a type 3?

I wanted to run an MSD but it will not fit under the lid already tried.

Run the 010 with compufire that is what I used on my 1776cc in my 1951 bug worked great and no flat spots.

yep -- I pulled the FI off of my square and went with a set of Weber 34ICT's; the mechanic that set the carbs up also installed an 009 (didn't have a vacuum port)...

when I asked him about the flat-spot inherent in the 009, he said that he tunes the car so that it doesn't have one...

it did -- under 3000 rpm, there was very little throttle response in the 1600; above 3000, it was alive...

so I researched and read in this forum about which mechanical distributor I should look for (and didn't have the money for a Mallory or MSD) and started watching the classifieds and eBay for an 019, preferably a Screamer (just because I liked the blue)...

found one for a low price on eBay and sent it to Glenn for a rebuild, got it back within a week -- and it's a Signature rebuild by Glenn (see my gallery), installed it and was simply amazed by the difference...

I can lug the car down in any gear and it will pull smoothly with only a tickle of throttle, drive around town in a higher gear without having to downshift to pick up the pace...

the difference is night and day between the two -- if you haven't tried them back-to-back, you'll never know...

Are you asking for a points replacement? The Pertronix 1844 fits in the 010 and 019.
