New pedals to me, built by a local buddy and admired for a few years, came home with me this weekend.

Funny how many things travelled 100s of miles this last weekend just to end up in a close friend's garage! Good score sir- it was a blast to see you all. Bradford

No offense, but why did you hack a shitbag engine into a nice bike like that?
I did it to a late chrome cruiser to try it, and was disappointed just how crappy it was, so i punted it.
In your case I would yank the accessory engine and keep the bitchen skipper.
Just what is that bike anyway?

Hack? It's bolted in and easily removed; did you weld yours in or something?Smile
I've had that bike for a LONG time and was going for a boardtrack racer style bike. It's a 1940 Columbia/Westfield. I like it, but I have another project I need to finish.

Is that chainring composite? Never seen that before, but it makes sense for some applications.

I used to restore Schwinn bikes. The last two bikes I restored was a 1954 Schwinn Jaguar that was a great bike but I like the 1978 Schwinn Paramount better.

There certainly were several different option on those early Paramount bikes. They were a little like our V-Dubs. We could personalize them to a degree and make them our own.

I robbed the chrome fenders off a ladies Schwinn & put them on my son's 10 speed. Then went and bought/installed a luggage rack & lights. Took me back to customizing my bikes when I was in grade school! Cool

I NEED BIKE HELP!!!!!!
Im restoring my barn find 1958 Schwinn and I need to find out which model it is. It came stripped of any thing that remotely looked "fancy" in including the kick stand. It has the 'clover' gear and reflective pedals but they may be from a different model.
Any Ideas as to what model this 58 schwinn is?

I have stripped the paint but before I did I took pictures of identifying markers.

Original colors were red with white pinstripes down the fork and on the front of the frame.

Im planning on matching the color to the westy.

That fork pinstriping and single straight bar are reminiscent of a Non-Deluxe/Deluxe Hornet. If it were a double-straight bar it would be a Tornado...both very similar bikes from the same era. There are a lot of photos to be viewed of late 50's Hornets on the interweb...

My 1959 Schwinn Deluxe Tornado. A 24" Middleweight Double Straightbar. I bought this bike from my cousin in 1975. It was a basically a frame & wheels...it was a rideable bike and I did my paper route on it for a couple of years. In 1983 I started collecting the proper parts and restored it to it back to the way it looked when it left Arnold Schwinn & Co. in 1959.
