Hi folks. I just picked up the carb on the left. All it says on the body is SOLEX. It looks like the SOLEX 26 VFIS carb on my engine, but you can see it doesn't have the strengthening ribs in the body or around the base. Can someone identify it and give a date of manufacture? Danke Sehr.

It's a later replacement part. They refined it over the years even after they stopped putting them on productions engines. They were still using that carb on the industrial engines into the mid 50's or later although the ones for the industrial engines had different linkages on them.

Why would Solex weaken the casting around the base? It would make more sense that the beefier one on the right is the later carb. I have photos of wartime KdF carburetors with the identical body casting as the carb on the left.

Here is a NOS later replacement carb for an industrial engine. It still has the same casting as the others. The second pic has some numbers stamped into the side of the flange where it bolts to the manifold. Any idea what these numbers are? Maybe a date code?

And here is a picture of Christian's (KDFkid) Kubelwagen, chassis #66. It looks like the carbie you found, with the exception that the Kubel one has the VW cog wheel logo cast into the side of it.

Well then it must be an earlier carb. How about some more pictures.

My guess is that it's an early postwar 26 VFI series.
