Thanks for everyones reply. Last night i check in a Bugpack book i had laying around and it said that you do need the later tie rod ends. I bought this kit at the local VW speed shop and neither the front of the package nor the instructions said anything about the newer ends. I know this kit is made for the spindles but i have a sand rail that has a raised front end so im using it on the pitman arm.

You drill the steering arm on the spindle and press the bushing in and mount the tie rod from the bottom not on the pitman arm.

Thats what i have is a BJ beam, and i thought all BJ front ends were the same.

66-67 are ball joint, but have smaller sized tie rod ends.

Sorry MaineBuggy. Looks like you will need at least two new inner tie rod ends (see note at bottom):

These look like the parts you will need:
http://www2.cip1.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=VWC%2D131%2D415%2D821%2DA

Looks like VW made an upgrade midway thru the 1968 model year.

Folks like me who upgrade their brake spindles also need to worry about matching the correct tie rod ends.

What year? The later style tie rod ends, 68 and up I believe, are bigger then the earlier ones.

Anyone have any experience with this kit. I think i just wasted $20 on this piece of crap. Drilled out my pitman arm, tapped the bushings in, went to put the tie rods on, tie rod ends fit way too f*&king loose. Very dissapointed. Am i doing something wrong before i give up?
