Do any of you Oval guys have a source for these for my `58 Kabriolett?

I´d prefer to use original parts if anyone has any - I have not heard anything good about the aluminium repros.

thanks

Those are going to be extremely hard to find. The original ones I believe were made from brass. I once saw a thread where someone from Australia was making some and they were pricey. That's why I plan on making some myself once I finish my top.

Give Chuck from Chuck's convertables a call. I heard he was thinking about making another run of those.

Thanks guys. I´ll give him a go.

I only have one piece of the three left, and yes, they are chromed brass.

I was also wondering about making some from stainless. It´d be a lot less work for sure and longer lasting i would imagine. The only place I found so far that´ll do custom extruded stainless shapes is in Malaysia - with a 100lb minimum order. Thats a lot of trim strips!

I just sold the extra one I had, and let me tell you they are almost impossible to find.

The guys in Australia are working on them, they will be perfect, but I bet costly.

But they do make a big difference on the car.

Kevin, do you remember the width of the trim? It looks like it's 1/4" or maybe 3/8"?

Just a heads up for anyone interested.

Emailed with Chuck. He says they are thinking about another run of these trims, but even after they decide to go ahead, it will be 18 to 24 months before they are completed.

I asked chuck over a year aog and was told he was thinking about doing those tack strips and that was way over a year ago your bedt bet is to post a wanted ad in the classifieds .

It took me over 2 years searching to find all three pieces and they all need work of some kind

the ones from australlia I believe were somewhere around $1200-$1400 shipped to your door ready for "show" car status installation w/ the special installation tool for the snaps

just get some brass I think it can be purchased in a half round shape, cut it to size, bend it to fit, shape the ends, drill holes in the ends, countersink those holes, on the inside drill some holes 1/4 way into the brass solder some nails in and then send the parts to a very good plater. Done! at least thats the way I have seen it done in the past at the restoration shop I worked at.

Oh, well, if thats all there is to it...! Very Happy

I do actually have a couple of suppliers for this profile in (I think) brass or aluminium. I was just wondering if anyone had any already done, to save me the hassle and expense. That and the fact that I don´t know exactly what the missing parts look like.

Someone was telling my that they have drilled holes at the end of the trims for screws, but my remaining original piece doesn´t. Or is that only on the front and rear trims?
Anyone...?

Depends on the year. My 55 had holes drilled in the front for screws but not in the back. All of my pieces were OG to the car except the one above the rear window, which is still OG - just not with the car.

Kevin, do you remember what the width was for the trim? I'm going to make my own and I was hoping you could remember what the dimension was?

No screws in the back pieces at all? Neither above or below the window?

I will, but I just want confirmation from the guy that it really is brass, not aluminium. Don´t want to tell you bad info.

I can get aluminium too, but thats going to be a last resort.

Good luck finding anything close to the real thing or making it look real for that matter.
