Just curious, are 4" narrowed beams requiring body mods, or are there beams made with the offset shock towers?
Thanks

A few different people make 4" narrowed king pin beams with modified shock towers that DO NOT require body modification. I have a 4" narrowed beam on my vert with shock towers...no body mods. I got it from Cameron at http://volksfab.com
I have to say the quality is outstanding, the price was good, and it came quickly. Highly recommended. _________________ DBK Nor Cal

thanks for the contact. In your opinion, is there a big difference in going with a four inch as compared to a two inch beam. I'm trying to decide which dimension to go with, and im not sure if two inches is enough.

I had a 2" narrowed on my old oval sedan and it looked ok, but I love the 4" look way better (I'd even be down to rock a 6" no tower shot). Keep in mind that if you roll lowered spindles or disk brakes up front you're going to widen your track width and lose some of the amount that you have narrowed. _________________ DBK Nor Cal

4" Beams with shock towers are made by quite a few sources, I had a 5" beam on my old 57' Rag with no shocks and CB spindles, No problems with clearance anywhere. I'm still not sure if I'm going to run a 4 or 5 incher on my new 57' Rag, guess it depends on what wheels I end up getting. I wish i had and extra $3000 laying around for earlies, but I don't. _________________ 1956 Oval/Ragtop |

Its all a matter of taste. I like 3 - 5inch beams for 4.5's. If they are wider i'd go narrower.... _________________ ITMC-El Presidente

I agree, if you got the coin for 4.5's then a 4 inch beam is perfect. The wider the rim, the narrower the beam from there. I had a 5 incher, but with the Randars I ran, I was not happy with the look. The Randar's were 5inches wide with only a 3 1/2 BS I believe. _________________ 1956 Oval/Ragtop |

I have been wondering the same thing, should I go with a 3" or 4" beem with dropped spindles and early 4.5 Fuchs? How about posting some pics with the different beem widths with early 4.5 Fuchs? I already have a set of earlies for my '57. Thanks |

I run a 3" on my 57 with 4.5. Looks better than a 4" IMO. I just dont like that super narrow look. |

regular shocks don't change the ride...only a high pressure gas shock or a specifically valved shock will change the ride...shocks are for, get this, absorbing shock....
all torsion bar vw's that are lowered are rough and bouncy....the bounce is more from *lack* of suspension travel, than anything else...the "bounce" comes from the tires giving....lower profile tires give a harsher ride... _________________

Not true, sorry. I've ridden in a few lowered Vws, and yes, some did ride rough, but others were much smoother. _________________ (O\U|U/O) Top Vw (o\UU/o) |

it is true...when the torsion bars are rotated the bars and the arms are put into an position that is not conducive to smooth rotation...period...even a rough riding vw(i've had plenty) will ride "smooth" on a good road...
my current car is *very* smooth for a vw.... pssssssssssstttttttt _________________
