Congratulations! Certainly a more solid example as far as New England Beetles are concerned.
I'd strongly suggest first trying to save your fenders and front apron by pounding out the dents. IF those are original fenders, or even German fenders from a different car, the metal is STURDY. You have nothing to lose in trying to un-dent the parts. Just buy a universal body dolly (Eastwood.com). Or find a sledge hammer head to back up your hammer blows... Even though your front apron is rusty at the bottom and may not provide enough holding strength, you can try to use a small hydraulic jack placed vertically inside the trunk, using sturdy boards against the panel under the gas tank to spread the pressure of the jack's wheels. Small block of wood at the arm pedestal. As you pump up the jack, the arm will then force the apron forward. A little at a time, and work the creases with a body hammer (also from Eastwood).
Then practice evening out the dents with "gorilla hair" and body filler. Finally, spray the fenders and apron black with gloss black Rust-O-Leum in a spray gun + compressor to match the paint on the car. Cheap, cheap, cheap but decent results for a "20-footer" finish. Use the same paint to 2-tone your wheels to factory scheme.
The rear bumper blade really needs to be replaced rather than straightened, but you can readily find better examples at VW swap meets like Terryville CT in August. Soak all bolts from the bumper parts with PB-Blaster, then heat them up with a propane torch when removing so that you minimize snapped heads. |

Seriously, looks good to me. As far as the front clips go, many beetles need them (including mine). The only concern I would have is the door alignment as was mentioned before. However, maybe the door is just bent. _________________ 1969 Sedan

I would clean the floor up and check the pan real close from ON TOP.
That undercoating can be hiding things.

the pan is good someone undercoated it sometime in the mid 70s and the headliner is good for a driver with 2 small rips about 1 inch long |

This really doesn't look all that bad!
The interior is not too bad. Seats look good.
How is the headliner, back seat?
Just new fenders all the way around.
The front clip is bent, but thats not to hard to fix.
Send us pictures of the pan top and bottom

Even the registration / title doesn't mean a lot sometimes. I had a 68 Mustang a long time ago that was registered as a 67. It was the 333rd 1968 Mustang produced in Mid 1967. I guess it confused the people at the DMV or something. _________________ 1969 Sedan

Ok so i have the car at my house and i did get a previous registration which is the tittle in r.i. and it says the car is a 1965 but the vin #is 116 so it must be a real early 1966 tittled as a 1965 |

Congrats on the score! That's a great project - I would have snapped that up as well.
It doesn't look in terrible shape, considering it is new England. |

Don't sweat it, I'd rather have a 66 anyway. But then again I'm partial. |
