I'd be interested to see what you come up with. Definately needs to be easily accessible without blocking the passageways. I do believe there are cupholders that take the place of the ashtray...but unfortunately for me, I am a smoker....blah. Maybe just one more incentive to quit. |

People were talking about this in the bug forum, someone was asking about a center console. People said they had many bad experiences with the ash tray cupholders, that they constantly fell out and spilled hot/sticky liquid everywhere...
I'd be interested to see what you come up with. |

I have a set of these http://www.ajprindle.com/products/product.aspx?sku=12306 in my bus. They are stuck to the metal seat base. They work for me but they are sized for cans and larger bottles, like a 20 oz plastic coke bottle, won't fit. But they do work well for holding cans, pens, and a cup for spare change. I tried the cup holders that fit into the ashtray slot but they hide the parking brake release enough that I found myself driving off with the parking brake on. |

i'd love something, especially if it could work in a bug too. i ordered one of those ashtray thingies from busdepot forever ago and they've been backordered forever. i don't know if they'll ever actually carry them again, although it always says they're in stock.
work something up and let us see it! _________________ 74 Super Convertible (Green Monster - Go Sox!)

the idea i have in mind won't block the e-brake,ashtray or obstruct walking between the seats! there also won't be any hole drilling or modifying the bus form original! |

I'm interested. When I was using my bus as a daily driver, I used a small elastic (Bungee) cord to hold my cup in place on the floor next to the passanger's seat. Okay for getting it from A to B but not for being able to take a sip along the way. _________________ -- Christian

I'll take 1!!! I always wanted one of those that go into the ashtray but I'm afraid it will interfear with the shifting and like "Calumet" said:

Roll of duct tape on the floor. I believe the spool diameter was determined by a coke can. _________________ 1971 Westfalia with a high top.

Check this link, the cup holder mounts to a rollbar. I have seen others like this and they seem like they could mount to the bar under the dash.
Haven't checked it out just an idea and no cutting.... |

If you have the storage box/stool that goes between the front seats, you can do what I did. Get the folding cupholders for the Vanagon and screw 2 of them to that. Works great for me. I also put one in the back where the mount for the table goes. _________________ -=Rob

I have one of the bench seat cupholders on the floor between the front seats. Only seriously aggressive driving knocks it around.
For the rear, I got a pair of drop-ins from West Marine:

I ordered and received mine about a month ago from the Bus Depot,
Also, I have some for my bugs too and never had any problems with them falling out ( they seem fairly tight). |

I thought I was the only one! There really is no end to the uses of duct tape! _________________ '71 Bus (ex weekender someone stripped - in process of converting to "8" passenger)
Millwright/Rigging comes natural to me. I guess I am just used to fitting big things in small places.

bastards! i knew i should have called to check up on that. it's been way more than a month ago that they said they would probably never have them again. now i definitely want one of MOX's just out of principle. (also, MOX i'm sure yours would be really cool.) _________________ 74 Super Convertible (Green Monster - Go Sox!)

I bought a cupholder at Target for $7. It holds two cups, a few CD's and spare change. I just place it on the floor between the front seats. It works just fine and I can move it it I have to. ..I also use" Mug-Buoy" brand cup holders 2 in front attached to the storage box..And also 2 in the rear. they were also from West Marine and pivot so they do not spill.since they are for boats. _________________ V.W.owner since 1967 |
