I was hoping to just change the drums because I already have a new pair of shoes for the brakes I have now. |

For the fronts:
You will have to find drum spindles. You will need the backing plates, brake cylinders(two per side), shoes and drums. Also, all the springs, brake lines between cylinders and other bits.... The cylinders are getting very hard to find and very expensive. The drums turn up now and then, but also, getting really expensive. I spent a long time before I found all the stuff for my 65.
For the cost of converting to drums, I would say its not worth it. Especially since the discs are so much better and safer. A way better option would be to check out some of the wide 5 front disc kits that are starting to come available. _________________ Jim in Sacto -

I'm not concerned with the front.
I am talking about the rear right now. |

You can buy the repopped Type 3 rear drums. They are the '64-'65 style. They should be readily available for about $75 a piece at the most. Most of the pieces for the rear shouldn't be all that hard to find, as bus guys use this setup all the time when lowering. _________________ '54 Kombi | '57 356 Coupe | '57 Samba | '62 Notchback | '63 Beetle (36k Original Miles) | '66 Pigalle Sunroof Squareback | '70 Westy |

I picked up a full set of front and rear 5 bolt T-3 drums last weekend, with backing plates. The front wheels cylinders look rebuildable. I dod not get any shoes with the rears. _________________ Society is like stew. If you don't keep it stirred up, you end up with a lot of scum on the top!--Edward Abbey
