42OGOAT - The PO saw an ad in a local classifieds paper 8-10 yrs ago. He bought it for parts and picked a few here and there. Nothing too major. As time passed he wanted to get it on the road but never found the time. He has quite a few buses that will keep him busy.
Steve - The mirror arm work PERFECT!!! Matches the bus in every way. Just put it on today. Thanks again!!
Obus - These are the glamore shots. It's a cool bus but it's got some nasty rust too. Those pics will come later. |

Agreed!!
I just can't figure which direction I want to go with it.
Faded as is with stock running gear.
Or
Buffed out, lowered with beefed up running gear.
For now I just want to get it running and stopping. |

Don't buff that!
Trust me...it does not look as cool and you can't go back...shiney and old paint do not fit..in my opinion anyhow... _________________ Samba Member #95 |

Finally made some progress today.
Engine pulled.
Gas tank pulled. Broke one tank strap bolt. Will be an easy fix with some vice grips though. Broke piece will be removed from the underside of the shelf. Tank is ready to go get cleaned and sealed. Had some NASTY gas in it too. Fuel reserve tap in rough shape and will probably get replaced.
Great thread on reserve taps. http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=140391&highlight=fuel+reserve
Noticed one axle boot will need to be replaced.

That fuel reserve tap looks as crusty as mine did .
It sound as if you are having the same fun as I had with my tank . _________________ If you don't like the way I drive , stay off the sidewalk . |

Did you rebuild or replace it?? If replaced, who did you buy the replacement from??
The tank will be taken to be flushed and cleaned out today. If any one has a good original gas cap please let me know. |

Bought a gas tank for it today. Should hopefully have it running in a month or so. Details to come. Very slow progress. |

Your bus kicks ass, still staying stock? I want a dove blue pressed kombi, same setup as my bus, OG, not perfect, and 670 firestones. be so bad ass.
I just LOVE kombis.
Come to think of it, id take any dove bullet kombi. _________________ Nothing can stop the man with the right mental attitude from achieving his goal; nothing on earth can help the man with the wrong mental attitude.

Marc,
I just found this thread today. Nice job so far, I love the way you are restoring the bus and keeping the patina pretty much the way I found it.
I am living my dream through you.
This is the way I found it.
