Disk brakes
4.5" replica Fuchs
155/60
Castor shims

-Rear
2" adjustable lowered spring plates from Air Cooled Vintage Works

Long axles, I plan to put disks on the rear to lose the adapters and bring the rear in 1" on each side. If the tranny ever needs to come out id like to swap in short axles

Great thread. A lot of the guys are saying "dropped one click in the rear". Question.. Is it more typical to drop an inner or an outer spline? Thanks

CAREFUL. I put short axles on my 67. I'm running the same wheel and tire combo on the back and I was given some adjustable spring plates. There is NO WAY I have room for them. The adjuster would hit my tire. I'm going to have to put 3/4" spacers on the back to clear. I'm HOPING your disc brakes will push out that far, providing the space needed...but I'm unfamiliar with added offset due to discs.

10-4, thanks. Axle swap is a ways out anyway, just going to start with the disk brake conversion to lose the adapters, I haven't been able to determine if the disk brakes add any width

I'm wondering how the front air shocks are mounted, don't the shock mounts require cutting them off with a beam narrowed more than 2" or so?

Rockin a stock width beam. specs as follows.

FRONT;

-stock width beam
-welded in sway away adjusters
-stock drums
-4.5in 356 replica rims(well, the one under the fender is)
-185/60 r15

REAR;

-lowered one outer notch
-stock drums
-4.5in replica 356 rims
-165/80 r15(need to be taller and wider IMO)

I dont get why so many people automatically jump to the whole "gotta have a narrowed beam" thing. unless your running wide or large offset rims i dont see the point unless your slamming the crap out of the car.

That’s pretty low. How bad is the rear camber?

I'm a few posts above you, if you want to see wider tires, similar setup. My axles might be shorter on my 66 though. I went mild 2" narrow because I needed adjusters and the beam was on samba for 200. I wouldnt go taller than 80 sidewall though.

Hi, I saw your 66, nice car. Mines a 65 so same axles. I want to use some spacers on mine or go with long tubes eventually. That or I'll widen the rear rims 2 inches or so.

Thanks

Good morning,

I currently have 145’s up front on a stock length kingpin front beam. I want a slightly wider tire with about the same or slightly shorter sidewall. What size would you all recommend. I hear that going slightly wider helps w the handling of the bug.

Thanks in advance for all your help.
