Ok I first of am very close to getting a bettle, it is a 68 standard. I like the looks of a baja, but dont know if i should use a bus trans, or even if i could use a porsche trans?

the reason i ask this is because i am going to use a rotary engine, or maybe some other engine i dont know yet. What i do know is i want mpg. I have a truck right now that gets 6mpg. so is it possible to use a porsche tranny for baja use. Will it be strong enough?

thanks zeth

Porsche 901 tranny can be put in with some fabrication.

It's been covered so do a search.

A stock vw engine will get way better mileage than a rotary, and will bolt right into the car already. Just an idea.

A type 1 trans can be used but will need some upgrades.
Best bet would be to pick up a pro street trans.
The usual upgrades are heavy duty side plates, welded 3 & 4th, upgraded axles, superdiff, maybe a R&P swap.
Check out the local book store for performance beetle books.
They'll list extra stuffs and provide info for on what to change to handle more HP.

I to plan on a rotary swap.
PM me for more info.

No matter which way you go, you are gonna spend well over $1000 for any tranny that can handle 200 HP

Why you need a 5 speed?
Berg is the best 5 speed option, not as many mods required as a porsche.
