Ok, yesterday morning, I got out and sanded the k-36 primer before the Blazer arrived for some work. Had it about 90% finished, then had to stop, and work on the Blazer. Fast forward about 6 hours and a few beers later, I finshed the last 10% of the sanding, and put a final coat of DP on it to seal it off. Here's a couple of shots.
I let that dry overnight, and today lightly scuffed it in preperation for the Nutria. Got the shop up to temp, and then shot some. Here's a couple of pics.
Then I took an extra shot to compare the color match to the rear fenders, since they were in the background anyway. Here's that shot.
Looks pretty close to me. So I'll let that dry overnight, and in the next day or two, I'll put the rear fenders back on, reglue the trunk lid seal, and re-install some of the parts I removed. Then I'll pull the trim off, and get busy prepping for the clear coat. Not a bad way to start the week off. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

If you guys had been here when the parts car was delivered to my house with the back up on the back of a tractor 3 point hitch.
I told them I did not want it towed, due to being an automatic that had been sitting for who knows how many years. 1993 was the date on the license plates. _________________ Society is like stew. If you don't keep it stirred up, you end up with a lot of scum on the top!--Edward Abbey

Yeah, it sure has come a long way since I cut it off the 69 Square out at Russ's. A reminder of what the "new" piece looked like compared to now.
I should have the rear fenders back on soon now. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

Yeah, that's why I own a type 3, only german sheetmetal for me, none of that off shore crap, that doesn't fit. I mean it might have been a Square part, but it's still a stock type 3 part. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

I haven't started cutting the 71 Fastback yet. The apron on that is very straight. _________________ Society is like stew. If you don't keep it stirred up, you end up with a lot of scum on the top!--Edward Abbey

And I thought my rear apron was bad, and never going to be right!
That is some craftsmanship, right there! Thank you Bob for showing us how it should be!

No kidding. Now looking at how mine is, I think it is less bent than I thought. Even more reason to leave the body alone, like I do not already have enough to do... _________________ Please consider I am Autistic, so I process information differently and still working on social skills. Thanks.

Ok, I did get the rear fenders back on last night. I still need to fine adjust them, as the molding is off at the doors by about 1 to 2mms. It's pretty close though, and sure makes the dust stand out. I guess I need to reinstall my outside water tap, now that the snow and ice are gone.
I've still got to sandblast these clips, and probably sand the rust stains from the clips that hold the ISP West Stainless steel trim on. It really sucks that they started to rust in only 2 years, but then I'm in a pretty humid area. Here's a couple of pics of the clips and stains.
Sean Orz, mentioned that "it gives me great inspiration for my square! ", well that was the whole prpose of this build thread, to give inspiration to others and get them building their own cars. If I can that pile of rust that is normally cut up and scrapped, and fix it, then there shouldn't be any problems, or excuses for you west coast guys and gals. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

Bob, after seeing your work with rust, it is not suprising what you can do when provided with German steel.
nice work |

Yeah, I prefer working with vintage sheet metal, as it's a little thicker than the modern stuff being built today. And living in Michigan, I get to see plenty of rusty cars. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

Funny. I save Mercedes and VW scrap metal whenever possible so that I can graft in metal that's the same thickness and composition when I need it. I have a small stash of old fenders, hoods, trunk lids, etc., to cut out donor pieces. _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! Я з Україною.

Yeah, I have german "donor" metal out here as well. It sure makes it easier to work with similar thicknesses. Sometimes I find myself using it to fix domestics too. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

Hey Bob, nice meeting you @ Jaranson's today. Some good progress was made..Just scanned through your teardown and build. You weren't kidding about the rust and I love the pic of you standing on the chassis inside the body with no roof, like a gladiator. I'll be following your build from here on out. Later.
