Hey Bob, nice meeting you @ Jaranson's today. Some good progress was made..Just scanned through your teardown and build. You weren't kidding about the rust and I love the pic of you standing on the chassis inside the body with no roof, like a gladiator. I'll be following your build from here on out. Later.

Yeah, it was good meeting you today at John's. We did get a little more work done on it after you left though. Not much, but a little more.
I told you that car was rusty. It was so rusty, that I named it Krunchy, because if you grabbed a spot on it it would literally crunch under the pressure of being squeezed. But if you look at my starting post dates (in the tear down thread), and some of the last posts in 2008 of this thread, you'll see about 90% of the work happened within 6 months after I got it. With the amount of repair work it needed, I spent a lot of time fixing it. Yeah that pic was taken after a very long day (work, plus working on the car), and after I'd already had a few cold ones. Roman tagged that pic as Captin Krunch. But that's how I test floors. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

Yesterday I raised Krunchy back up some. I only raised it up 1 spline all around, and I hope that's enough, as his new owner wanted it raised up a little (didn't have to be stock height). Here's some pics of him after being elevated from the ground.
He sure looks strange after seeing him lowered for the last 3+ years. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

Too many vehicles, and not enough time to drive them all. Plus the proceeds from the sale will go into Wolfie, and some other projects I have here.
I only say that, as I've probably only put 500 to 900 miles on him in the 3 years I've had him, and only a little over 100 this year alone. It's hard to justify keeping him if that's all I'm going to drive him. My 65 Notch probably only got maybe 50 miles so far this year, but I've had that car 11years now, and last year I put over 1400 miles on it. I've still got the Square-vert to finish up, and I've had that car 8 years now. It was a good city car, but it needed a roof to be more useful (lack of a roof limited it's use, weather wise).
Plus I feel it's time to let him go, as I got my enjoyment building him, and listening to people whine about why I would tackel something so rusty. I did it more as a challenege than anything else. The trans was the only thing I didn't go thru, everything else got gone thru though.
The new owner was looking for a car that was basically done, you know, a turn the key and drive away car, not a project. His only request was that I raise it up some (he drives on some rough roads too). I offered to raise it back up to stock height, and install some stock tires and wheels on it, but he said what was there was fine, just raise it up a little. So I did. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

Im glad to see the car go Bob. You did the right thing for all the right reasons. Why covet it in the garage never to see the open road? Pass it onto someone who will have new adventures, new stories with Krunchy! _________________

No. Sandblasted both sides of the pan, then a coat of PPG's DP 90 epoxy primer, followed by a coat of PPG 9700 Deltron paint, and finally a clear coat (PPG's Strato Clear). I did it that way, as I never wanted to ever get back into that pan. I wanted it sealed in other words.
The body got a similar combination, except on it, I went with Concept Nutria brown paint, and then 2 years later it got clear coated (same clear). _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

Yup. Same thing with Wolfie. I learned quite a bit from that car (well both cars), but I can't drive them all.
I still have my 65 Notch (non-1500 club elligible car ), along with the wife's Fastback here, so I still have my VW fix when I need it.
But, my Geo Prizm (Toyota Corolla clone) has been a fantastic daily driver, and I've been driving the hell out of it. Some day I'll get the A/C fixed on it.
But I still have my truck, and my van here too, so I've got a few vehicles around here to keep me busy. Fortunately, they don't need the maintenance that the VW needs. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

I'd love to say send me a plane ticket, but I'm currently in the middle of a Pontiac Trans Am Pacecar restoration (it's on the rotissery) at the moment. I've got parts for that car scattered all over the property and even in my friends garage, as I don't have the space here. Not to mention, I've got 3 other projects waiting for me to get to. In other words I'm busier than shite with work (all paying too).
I'd really like to help you out, but I guess what YOU need to do, is go and hand Tram a PILE of CASH to get him off his butt, and get working on your car. Sometimes that's all it takes. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

Alright you fucktards... mention my name five times and it's like "Candyman" up in this bitch.
Sure, I'd love cash... but what I really need is 5 or 10 Pedros to get over here and do my Gotsdamn work for me.
After a major surgery every year during the 2010-2015 period I just got in the clear and feeling like my own self when the relatives started getting sick and taking the big vacation. Annette's mom's cancer came back and we had her here in hospice beginning in Feb, then my dad's multiple myeloma got really aggressive mid May so I flew back to Ohio for two weeks. Then back here on the second of June with hospice, and my dad passed on the 10th so back there. Then back here, and Annette's mom finally passed on July 31. My cousin Peter had a heart attack and died at 64 August 2. My wife's Uncle Mike died last week.
On top of that, I was the point man and the "keeper of the secrets" for both estates. The mother in law's was easy because I was the one who basically set everything up, but we are still turning up assets and investments from my dad the banker... aka "the Squirrel" at this point because he sorta buried stuff everywhere. At least my mom isn't in any danger financially but that's not much consolation to her, unfortunately.
We're exhausted. I now need to go back to Ohio to help my poor mother out who is 79 and alone for the very first time in her life, probably early December. My younger brother is there and really taking charge of things but he can only do so much.
Excuses, excuses.
Sure, I'd love to take a big wad of cash off bayboy's hands but I'm afraid to. It'll get done, I'm not going all Kiefernet on your ass yet.... Save your pennies Boi...

Yeah, you could say that. Neil basically donated a Squareback to rebuild it (and clean up his yard), and I used all that he had given me, along with some stuff from Russ and Martin (before the DDB closed), not to mention the pile of parts out back that I had. It still looks as good today (although a little dirtier) than it did 5 years ago.
Sorry to hear about your relatives Tram. That has to suck. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof
