Hi,
I have witzemann german lifters for my future project - stock 1600cc engine , all my parts are genuine VW NOS german , camshaft , crankshaft & etc...
I read about the Udo Becker lifters that the're top notch , I thought to buy them ...
They're worth $380 to invest or should I stay with my old witzemann german lifters ?
Thanks much
Ofir

Sorry, but I agree with Keith on both points.
It's time to make a decision and build this engine.
I have Wizemann lifters in my 2180. _________________ Glenn

i personally dont see whats so unusual about planning slowly over years for the next rebuild. i think the OP should be commended for his thorough and cautious approach...as compared to all those racers who try to save five or ten buying those AA chinese timebombs
on the other hand, i think Ofir missed keifers joke. it really couldnt have been a serious criticism. Glenns comment though- that could have been. but then its easy for him to say. he has someone else build his motors, am i right? just kidding

Stock 1600? Use Udo's lifters, then start saving for Pauter connecting rods. _________________

dansvans - finally someone see it in my point of view - thanks!
Do not bother "moderator" keifernet to abuse his position , he enjoy to criticize others & create antagonism in the forum
Thanks for everyone - I'll stay with the witzemann! , we will talk ~10 years from now and see who has all NOS parts at year 2017.......... |

the wizemann is really adequate unless you want to get all crazy speedracer about it. poking fun at others is just that- not serious antagonism. and most who poke fun wouldnt do it if they thought it wasnt gonna be taken the right way. i say most cuz there are always the bullies who enjoy being mean. those exist here too but keifernet isnt one of them. |

Get some udo's.
Why?? because you can use them on your stock 1600 for years and then you'll be able to use them later on another engine. The soft stock springs will have virtually no wear on the tool steel IMO.
Thing is you know confidentally that you dont need to worry about cam lifter breakin. That "lack" of stress is priceless!!!
If you dont want to spend that kind of coin just use your existing lifters because soft valve springs are kind to pretty well anything you throw at them.....yes even scats would last a very long time with soft spring pressure. _________________ 11.92sec pump gas true daily driver. By 2017, under pressure from Eco-Nazi's, the Democratic party will have banned any non-alternative-energy/hybrid vehicle from use. Take solace knowing you will have all NOS, but unless you convert it to hydrogenated bio-diesel, you'll never drive it _________________

Gad, not again...Usually, though not always, I sit back and read posts and contribute my fair share. But lifters again? Have ya tried the search function? No, wait... You found your own posts and weren't happy with the answers the first time... _________________ 1967 Deluxe Sedan |

Yeah Ofir, why are you getting so bent? You alway come in here and ask the same questions about these "future project" parts your gathering over and over...
and I did answer your question... I said Udo's were top notch but IMHO overkill for a stock 1600 so what's up with calling me a 'smartass'??
seems you post these threads and then don't want to hear anyones opinion's unless they already match a pre concieved notion you already have formed.... so what's the point in asking over and over and over ( as in 6 or more threads on lifters in the last 2 years???)
My guess is you will have another oil pump or flywheel thread in the next 3 to 6 months... |

Dan, since I don't have easy access to a local machine shop which is capable to do the work needed for building hi-po engines I decided to have someone else do the assembly. And for the price that Art gave me it simply wasn't worth my time.
So far this year i've built 7 stock 1600DPs, how many have you done? One I did 5 years ago just hit 60,000 miles with nothing other than regular valve adjustments and oil changes.
I am far from a Master Engine builder but I do know how to turn a wrench.
How many 200hp engines have you built lately? _________________ Glenn

I built 4 of 'em in my mind yesterday. One hit the 200hp mark with the belt on _________________

keifernet you are demagogue & using cheap demagoguery to justify your fiasco , please don't bother to mislead the peoples in the forum.
My 2 cents advice to you if you think you have an answer - give a short & straight to the point answer. don't try to be a smartass , little man with big ego.
Do you aware how much antagonism you're creating in the forum ? look in the thread!
Coaching to you - take an example from the answer of SRP1 : "Use the witzemann german lifters, they will work perfect in your application." - short & straight to the point answer!
You're abusing your position as moderator. |
