I've actually seen it done.
Personally i'd drop the engine first. And you don't even have to take it out from under the car. _________________ Glenn

On a non doghouse earlier style it is a bear but possible... not saying it could not be done with doghouse tin but man... Like Glenn says you will actually save time and knuckles/skin just dropping the engine out and down... |

Thanks for the quick replies, guys. It looks like I'll be dropping the engine. I can use this opportunity to repair the leaky oil cooler, too. _________________ Suicide is man's way of telling God, "You can't fire me; I quit!" - Bill Maher |

If you try it with the engine in the car, it will be helpful to have fingers like a skeleton! _________________ Ghia Owner Emeritus |

Geeeez Remove the shroud, the carb(s) etc ....FIX the cooler leak AND install the plate(#23). Reassemble it all. Since its screwed in place to the cylinder tins at the backside. And rests over the joint of engine case and tranny....A LOT easier and faster than yanking it all out in my book, especially if its a doghouse cooler.

it takes less time to drop the engine...especially if you've ever tried to just whip off the shroud(doghouse) with an actual full cooling system...meaning all thermostat and "flaps" assembly with crossrod... quicker to drop the engine then remove the shroud than to do it in the car. _________________
