Well, I guess it's settled that these are most definately not NOS, just very nice reproductions. The ones I have are far superior to any repros I have been able to find. Are they worth the money? Well, if it costs $100 to have my originals rechromed and these cost me a little less than $70 each and they are the heavier gauge metal and the VW logo stamp is deep and crisp like the originals and the chrome is very nice, I guess I cant complain too much.... I used to get the Brazilian hub caps which were nice quality but would not fit a big nut transaxle, if they went on they would get a little star craze where the sharp edge of the nut crazed the hubcap dinging it outward, when you get your new caps you'll have to check them for fit if you're using them on a bignut trans bus

nice statement Wink

I collected them over years as spare for my aircooled car collection on swap meets for a very low rate, 5-10Eur per piece.

Some of these caps are reserved for cars that are now in restoration.

If you collect cars, you collect spares..... Embarassed

So it's "busted" but it's good to know there are good repros that could be replated to match og VW quality if you needed an uncrunched one.

Thanks for adding this to the FAQs.

I did search, but drew a blank.

Is the reproduction you weighed one of the new German repros or the plethora of aftermaket ones before the new authorized repros?

The chrome one?

It is some random aftermarket one I had kicking around in the garage.

It would be nice for someone to weigh one of the new reproduction chrome caps - I don't have one myself.

Does anybody know, if the new german production hubcaps with a weight of 19,1 oz have the 3little raised tabs along the outer edge?
Do any reproduction ones have these tabs?

Does this mean, the original ones can't be distinguished from the new german reproduction ones?
