Interesting that the optional tent is the same White Stag tent that Riviera offered, and that the Safare' Special appears to have the same pop top roof as a Riviera. |
the riviera one caught my eye too, but the front rack almost looks taller? otherwise it looks the same.. _________________ Stuart Zickefoose

It's a fiberglass thing. Back in the early 70's in california, fiberglass was a great way to make stuff. Boats, camper tops, dune buggies, and all manner of sporting equipment was made of fiberglass in California. And not every company that sold fiberglass items actually made them themselves. There are companies that made the tops for Riviera and Safare, not a stretch to imagine them being almost identicle. _________________ 1971 Deluxe Sunroof Bay 1905 stroker, dual idf40's, 74mm Scat forged crank, engle 110 cam. Good point. I think Riv tops were made by Sportsmobile in Indiana. _________________ nothing |

Thats an ASi Rivi tent made by White Stagg for apparently Riviera - yet here it is on a Sportsmobile.
I think back then there was a much broader ability to "share" and or "copy" what was out their. Like Westfalia using Doormobile tops. _________________

Brought home a '71 Safare the other day
Picked it up from the original owners son her in Mid-MO. It has been here for about 10 years but spent the first part of it's life around the Bakersfield,CA area. It is in pretty good condition ,only rust/rot is about a 1/2 dollar size hole in the pass front floor board. The top pass side window has been leaking for years so the fridge cabinet/counter top is f'ed up ,so it will need some love.

a long overdue update:
Took the 73' out on our maiden camping trip to Jellystone Park near Clearlake, CA. I drove alone and the wife and kids followed in her Rav4 since I haven't found a safe way to secure their car seats...yet.
The Bus was a million times more comfortable than the tent at night with the mattress from my son's bed. I think I'm going to buy another from Ikea since it fit great and was not too bulky and had better support than any futon pillow I've slept on. http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/00139752/
Cooking on the range beat bending over the campfire or camp stove, and the AC outlet was perfect for charging the phone before heading back home.
It was 105 degrees out so the night before we left I sewed a new windshield privacy cover/sun shield using the original as a template. Since I didn't have AC on the ride up, I was much more acclimated to the hot weather than the rest of our group.
Not everything is peachy keen; I still have to figure out why the sink pump doesn't work, why the oil cooler is draining the battery, and remove clean and inspect the propane tank...but there's no hurry. _________________ - Andre

I have been on the search for a hightop for quite some time now. It took me over a year after finding this one to get it. Some of you may have seen the thread I started on my newest find. I'm now trying to figure out what I have here, besides a total hack job!
I think I have a Safare top, but I don't think it's original to this bus due to the color. It appears to be Sierra Yellow, which I think is a '71-'72 color. This bus is a '69 that had a factory sunroof opening and belly pans, the opening has been enlarged a little toward the rear of the bus. It is fitted with the remnants of an early westy interior. Did the Safare campers use sunroof busses, or did they make their own opening. I figured I would ask the experts. Anything you guys can tell me about it would be much appreciated, thanks.

Picked thus baby up a couple months ago! Its a 1973 Safare with the pull out bunk up top. I am trying to figure out how the sink works. Anyone know if there is supposed to be an electric pump or is it manual?

Should be a manual pump, mine is. I'm sure it would not be to hard to install a electric one though _________________ 1959 mango-trailerbus

Hey guys,
I am redoing the propane line that runs to the trav'ler 302-20 and was wondering if anyone knew what size fittings and regulators are needed to connect the stove. There is a male flare thread on the stove, but don't know what will fit it to connect to the tank with some sort of regulator. I plan on removing the old propane tank and just running a line to propane canisters. I was thinking something like this:
http://www.amazon.ca/Mr-Heater-Propane-Regulator-A...opane+hose
Here is a pic of the decal, these numbers mean nothing to me
Any ideas?
