|
|
We recently purchased a fiberglass trike. The motor is stamped F2060440. We were told that the motor came from a bus. Can anyone help us figure out what we have? Thank you in advance for your help. |

Well, the F series engines were 1300 single-ports when they were new. In the US they stopped selling that engine after 1966, but it stayed around for other countries' markets through 1970. According to a chart I have here yours would have been from 1970.
What is in the engine now, is hard to say. Many 1300s have been rebult to 1500 or 1600 over the years. Is yours still a single-port intake or is it dual?

Between single and dual? Easy to spot if you look at the intake manifold. Here ya go:
Now, if you are talking about between 1300,1500 and 1600 (or any internal size for that matter) you won't know unless you take a cylinder head off and measure the cylinder. Unless the previous builder marked the engine block or something, or you have other documentation regarding the previous engine build. |

Since it's a dual port, it's likely a 1600 or larger. But not necessarily, since in Europe they introduced the 1300 DP (an engine never seen on US models) in 1971. And since your block came out of a non-US car originally , really, you'd have to tear the engine down to be sure what you got inside it. |

Yes it sure is. But then again, so is a 1970-vintage F block. |

We are apparently the 3rd owner of this trike. We were told that it was factory built in Arizona in 1987. That is really all of the information that we were given. It runs strong when giving gas, but dies when idle. The PO had trouble getting the correct parts, but did replace the fuel pump. |

Dying at idle can be all kinds of things, from vacuum leaks where the manifolds bolt to the heads or the rubber connecting boots being cracked, to a bad idle cutoff valve, to a dirty idle (pilot) jet or other contamination in the carburetor. Or it could be as simple as needing an idle idjustment. |

Thanks for all of your help. We are in the process of narrowing it down. We were trying to figure out what we had in case we need to replace parts. |
