You really do not need to spend that much on these parts, you guys should look for mis-spellings. I got a set of heads, and a crank and cam off here for $600. Heads needed rebuilding, but their perfect now. Also bagged a NOS SPG crank for about $300.

Carbs are NOS, all the zorst, linkage, cooler, fuel lines, are from Mr Wob. I had a set of NOS tinware, Nos heater boxes. have a set of new mahle big pistons as well.

All in for about £2500, not bad really. Do like the exchange rate recently. Very Happy

Period performance. If you were looking for modern useable street performance you wouldn't touch any "Vintage Speed" Kit but keeping up with today's traffic isn't what it's about.

What you have to look at is what was available back in the day. A 36hp engine in a Beetle in 1956 would get you from 0-60mph in 30 seconds. Buy a performance kit that would bring that 0-60 time down to 18 seconds and in 1956 you would have one quick Beetle.

If you judge an Okrasa or Judson kit "out of time" you will not be impressed...but as I said before, "that's not what it's about."

If I had an early ghia with 36-horse power, I would definitely equip it with the Okrasa performance kit. But, then again, with that price, man, I have to think about it first too. I mean, who wouldn't want to have that?

That is increasing the capacity of your classic KG or bug, for that matter, without however, altering the essence of a vintage vee-dub.

That is a true performance kit the old school fashion way.

If I am not mistaken,
Joe "Mr. Okrasa" Ruiz has a NOS kit for LESS - and that's saying something!

my definition of okrasa engines:
OKRASA = same power as a 1600 at ten times the price.

the okrasa kit was probably the most expensive accessory that anybody was buying in the '50s. why shouldn't it be the most expensive accessory that people are buying in the '00s.....

they still are out there for relatively cheap if you get lucky. I know of a couple okrasa engines being bought for under $100 in the last couple years.

Depends on how you build your vintage old school performance motor. Mine is far from being slow. If one is spending real money this is the way to go. Wait, is was a fraction of the 22k Okrasa kit and is a whole lot faster.

I went this way to keep the integrity of the low mileage original car. Would have been easier and much cheaper to have gone modern, but that’s no fun.

That engine looks great, I wish I hadn't sold my shorrock now after seeing a nice install.
