Hello,
I've got a speeding ticket on New York I-87 past night when I came back from Manassas Bug-Out and I would like to know how it work and cost? 16 mph over the limit... I have no fees on it. The only info I've found on the net is I gain 4 points. I'm from Quebec and this is my first NY state ticket.

Some errors occurs concerning the information enterred by the Officer.

The vehicule is register in Ontario and he write Quebec.
my city is Saint Colomban and he write Sanint Colombian

Just because the officer can't spell, doesn't mean you get out ot the ticket.
If the ticket has your name on it, you do the fine.
Someone from NY will have to tell you what it costs.

Um, if he lives in Canada, what can the state of NY do to him if he just trashes the ticket? Serious question, I really don't know how that works.

Canada and the US have a reciprocity agreement. If he trash-cans the New York ticket, he'll still be in trouble with the Canadian authorities.

Pay ticket, don't worry.
NY ticket never showed on Ca. driving record.
Shit hits the fan when you fail to pay, or fail to appear.

you only get out of ticket if the mistake is regarding the identity of driver or car.

if you got pulled over by a state trooper, then there are no plea bargains allowed- NYS law, designed to increase court surcharge revenues that go the the state gov't.

but if it was a town or county cop, then you could ask the cop to reduce the charge. just dont request the supporting deposition option on the back of the ticket, or they wont plea bargain it. plea bargains are so routine nowadays, you often dont even have to request it. the cop will call your name out when you appear...

On 87, I'd bet dollars to donuts it was a Trooper; in my area, interstates are their territory alone.....sheriffs and local cops just use them to get places like the rest of us. Very Happy

Not true. Individual states and provinces have to negotiate their own reciprocal agreements. Now it may be that NY and ON have such an agreement, I don't know. Usually just the points transfer.

I know for a fact that BC and CA don't have such an agreement. Tested that personally a few times. Smile

If the cop wrote Quebec instead of Ontario, they may not be able to track you. Change your tags, that makes it even more difficult for them to follow you.

It's call reciprocity see: www.m-w.com

If he fails to pay the fine in NY, they _CAN_ contact his "home" DMV and have his lisence suspended. Happens all the time.

The really sucky part is whne he gambles and looses, he will have to go to NY to clear it up, and someone else will have to drive him there, since they will have his name and vehilce on the watch list at the border, IF they even let him in at all. The Internet is a wondeful thing.

That's the problem. In this day and age you never know what's going to put your name on some list, and NY issuing some chickenshit arrest warrant for an unpaid ticket might do the trick.

Not worth it-- just pay the damn thing and be done with it.

September 11 2001 changed everything, just pay the ticket. Everybody seems to have forgotten that drivers license numbers are written on the ticket. Doesn't matter how screwed up the rest of the ticket is they'll find you.

I got a ticket in 1975, in New York state for unregistered and uninsured. I lived out in the puckerbrush and was playing around on my dirt road with a car I just got. Neighbor complained and I was a dumb kid. Anyway I was going in the Navy in a few months so I just didn't care. Fast forward 2005 living in MA. since 1980 I get a letter in the mail from the MA. RMV Take care of this in 30 days or your right to drive will be revoked. They made it easy for me, telephone number for NY RMV was included in the notice. Called the NY. RMV and they made it easy too, credit cards accepted! Every state in the country is reciprocal now. It wouldn't surprise me if Canada had an agreement too.

Had a secret clearance. They had to let me in some rooms for A/C maintenance. I couldn't go in others, like crypto, in the radio room. Our LPO did that room.
The only thing I figure happened, was that I paid the court fines but not the separate RMV fine of $300 (in 1975 !). And again they were easy on me, 30 years later and there was no additional interest or penalties.

Yep, the internet sure allows crap to spread.

News Flash: US Customs and Immigration doesn't give a damn about any traffic tickets in the USA.

I'll bet they care about warrants issued for failure to pay or appear.

So when you pull up and give them your drives lisence and they type in your info and type you tag number in to the computer, what do you think they are doing with it?
