|
|
From my reading, I assume that VW used cabinetry trim cabinetry trim from a German company called Reimo. I see they sell it in Germany and in the UK. The German site says a company in BC, Canada sells it, but when I contacted them - "no got".
I need to replace the sunbaked twisted trim on the rear shelf, and want to make some other mods with matching trim - including door trim.
Does anyone know where to get trim that matches the grey moulding on an '87 Westfalia. |

Try these guys:

The cabinets where not made in Germany. You can straighten out out old twisted, deformed, shrunk molding by removing it and soaking it in boiling water and stretching it a bit and letting it cool. _________________ Geology with a Syncro rocks!

The Rockler stuff is the same hard-plastic stuff as GoWesty sells. It's pretty crappy compared to the original t-molding, which was hollow and had a relatively soft rubbery-vinyl feel. The newer stuff doesn't bend well and shrinks quite a bit in the first couple months. I spent several hours Googling around for the good stuff but couldn't find anything like the original...
I considered working with an extrusion company to manufacture a batch of it to use and share, but my Mandarin is not so good. _________________ Tennessee Sombrero

Might it be possible to "pre-shrink" the stuff by leaving it out in the sun for a couple of months before installing it? Sorta like pre-washing your Levi 501s....
And as for bending, would applying some kind of heat help?
I'm asking, of course, because a lot of my 1984 moulding looks like hell.
Thoughts? _________________ 1984 Westy with tencentlife power! |

Thanks guys. I did find the Rockler site originally, but they don't mention Reimo by brand name.
Also I find that the original shallow 'T' trim needs to be 2mm X 16mm wide. The deeper 'T' trim is 7mm thick byt 20mm wide. I don't see these dimensions on the Rockler site.
Also want to find the door trim as I intend to make different wardrobe doors. |

The Rockler trim is the same as sold by Go Westy. I've looked at it. |
