on a split.
seeing all these super expensive splits being sold now-a-days it makes me wonder what type of "steal deals" have people really gotten.
lets hear them! |

Mine was $1150 in 1976 w/pos 36 hp and non-original tranny. Everything was there, but was beat up. Pans had to be replaced, and heater channels. Now she's almost done.
I drove it for 900 miles like this!

Added a three-fold and some wheels, beam, motor, etc. 'Bout time, huh? _________________ CH³NO²

Well.. I havent seen too many GREAT Deals lately..
I purchased my '52 for less than 10 G's..... I thought it was a pretty screaming deal at the time.. (he was asking 15,000 and it was on old.bug for like 13,000) Zero Rust and pretty darn complete including numbers matching engine.
Hard to believe its the same car.. and yes.. I rubbed that paint out... it actually did.. for once... "buff out"!!

Bought my 1953 oval for 2600 € with perfect all OG metal and very good interior.
Bought my 1949 for 1250€. Lots of wrong details but good OG metal stuff.
Found this 1952 vert for 4000€ and let it pass to Claus Missing.
I was an idiot.
Just got something good but can not yet talk about it. _________________ Master of my domain! |

I remember at one of the Intershows Saturday Night VW Swaps back in the 80's Randy Ingersoll scored a split window Cal Looker with 6 original BRM wheels and some extra bits for something like $1400. That was a legendary deal even then! _________________ Cheers!

The answer is me. I was at a rural show in New York's Southern Tier with my oval when a young guy came up and asked if I buy them. I said I wasn't really looking, and he said his dad had one in the barn "with the split back window..." I asked how much and he said "two-and-a-half." I said thousand?, and he said "no, hundred." Needless to say I was loading up the Max Hoffman zwitter the next day. |

I bought a rust free US import Hoffmann numbers matching January 53 zwitter for 9K 5 years ago from a fellow who was getting rid of some of his extra VW's. His wife thought he needed to get rid of some. He called me back the next day with sellers remorse and offered me a thousand over what I paid him for it.................................No Deal I still have the car.
