Bern,

I'm wondering if you ever tested the "kit" with 14's? Either way I'm in but since I just bought new tires it would be nice not to have to upgrade tires/rims at the same time. Thanks, Todd.

i'm pretty sure it will work with 14's....however I don't have any floating around....so if someone in the area wants to stop by with a 14, I'd be happy to put it on and see what the clearances are like.

It should fit in 14" wheels as long as you don't pick out a caliper with the hose inlet pointed where the wheel needs to be. The 190E rear rotor is ~258MM in diameter, same as the late Vanagon front rotor with "floating" calipers, and the Bus and early Vanagon front rotors are 278MM (fixed caliper).

I mocked up the Mk2 caliper/190E rotor combo with one of my spare 14" steel wheels and there was just enough clearance for it to work. IIRC it was 1/4"-3/8" between the caliper and the inside of the wheel, but don't quote me on that. It's been over a year since I checked it, and aside from "in the garage" I've got no idea where my notes are... Laughing

Maybe I missed it back in thread, but what are we talking about in the way of cost and exactly what will be included?

i assume what the 'kit' will include is just the adapter plates with recommendations for what calipers and rotors to use with them

... and btw... count me in too
it looks like a great DIY alternative to the 'pre-packaged' kits available for the vendors

Hi Bern,

I am interested too. Have you put any more thought into putting a kit together?

Mike
