I originally asked this question in engine/performance forum but didn't get any bites I'm taking my freshened case to machine shop next week to have them measure ID on main bearings so I can check them against crank specs (the crank is new but of unknown origin so I'm taking precautions).
my question is...can I just torque the main studs or do I have to install and torque EVERY nut and bolt on the case to get proper crush on bearings? I don't mind the extra effort but no sense doing it if it isn't necessary. _________________ 71 Bay (1776 in process)

Only torquing the mains is required. _________________ www.zwerks.ca |

Hi , Plastic gauge is commonly used to check bearing clearance, but why bother. Mic the crank journals to get the right size and put in new bearings. Gus |
Exactly what I am doing. I've used plastigauge for years on bikes, but can't use it on 1 piece bearings. Some people doubt the accuracy of it, but I have yet to have a problem with it. Anyways, thanks for the info, I'll just torque the mains. _________________ 71 Bay (1776 in process)
