Hello All,

Was wondering what some of you have done to the rear side window (behind the rear Westy closets). The window usually has a thin plywood covered with black cloth (so you can't see into the closet from the outside of the camper). Anyways, mine fades rather quickly. Lat time I removed my cabinets, I painted the plywood black. It looked ok; but not that great.
I guess I could tint it black. I don't like the bubbles I've seen on tinted windows. I don't think I could pull that off. I hate to waste the money on the tint. Is it hard to do?
I have a spare window, was wondering if anyone has ever had one sandblasted or etched car glass? I was thinking of sandblasting it. Would it shatter? Someone told me that this could not be done to tempered glass.
Another thought I had was just painting it black. Would the paint stick? Any help would be appresiated.

I would think that tint is a cheaper and easier alternative
The window is flat, so it shouldn't be that difficult to do it right with a kit

There's supposed to be a thin piece of wood screwed into place covering the window. "Doing it right" would involve covering the wood with fabric matching your curtains, so from the outside, it looks like the curtains are closed.

The closet I had there was rotting out so I just took it out...tinted the back windows the darkest you can buy, which I believe is like 2.5%...and will soon be putting a small cabinet (about elbow high when your sitting on the couch) in the closets place with cup holders built into the top...because apparently VW didn't think you would need freakin cup holders. But don't believe everything you hear about tinting...It is quite easy (as long as the wind isn't blowing...that was fun lol) and it usually only costs at most like $40 compared to paying someone $150...But yes thoughs back windows are the easiest ones to tint...If you can I recomend removing them first...it will make it easier...But dont worry it is still quite easy if you cant remove them..If you can't remove them, make sure you trim as close to the seal as you can or you will have a small gap thats not tinted all the way around the window...its too small to see from the outside but it will annoy the mess out of you everytime you look at it from the inside....Oh and one more thing....Once tinting it is very important while applying the tint make sure it is very wet with the soapy water keep the side that goes on the window clean or you will have crap under your tint.....Have patience though because some bubbles can take quite a while to get out once the tint is on the window...just keep using that squeegie. Good Luck

I'm planning to install a large solar panel in my window to help keep the aux battery at peak charge. Black glass look with a function.

... go to a commercial sign shop in your town, one that makes vinyl letters. Buy some black lettering vinyl and apply that to your right rear window, or have them do it for you.

Oil Phil - M -
You might try putting your solar in there and testing the amps coming through. It might be a waste of solar cells at that angle- except for in the evening few hours.
Good idea though. I think Unisolar has the best panel for indirect light. Most of them need to be at a 90 degree angle .
