i actually did something this weekend, first time in months for my non-running bus. Ground down the stud bosses on my exhaust manifold, and chased the stud holes to try and buy a little more wiggle room. for some reason my whole setup isnt sealing right, trying to chase away this pesky exhaust leak.
next weekend i will actually have a few dollars to throw at it! looking forward to muriatic acid/metal etch/por15 tank sealer, a new fuel gauge sender, and possibly (if i have enough dough) a new fuel filter and all new fuel lines, new injector seals, and time to rebuild my fuel system. _________________ '76 Sage Green Westy 2.0 FI

I dove in deep. I changed the steering shaft coupling disc, steering box, drag link, center pin, steering dampner, one ball joint (which was a biotch) and tried to adjust the parking brake.
I wanted to do the brake pads and shoes but thankfully they didn't need it as I am to flippin tired. I was also wanting to install the hardwood flooring that has been sitting in my shop for two weeks but we'll have to wait on the cosmetics.
I will take it in for the full-on alignment soon.
Next weekend go for a drive and night under the stars. hopefully. |

I vacuumed it and checked the oil. Then I tossed in a hibachi and a cooler full of burgers, brats and beer, and headed to the Michigan game for a tailgate party! _________________ The consequences of your decisions should not be confused with fate. |

Got my tins cleaned up, got the head back from the machine shop, head put on, tins sorted (two sets, best of two), Got engine back in the bus. Today I put the other HE on and finished wiring the alternator.
Tomorrow I tackle the slow starter, hookup the clutch and gas, and hopefully start her up. Wish me luck. _________________ 2L, Raby cam, HAM Heads, Mallory, Dual Dell 40's, Porsche discs, Fuchs (Colored matched not to my bus),tunin' the crap out of it, slammed on Wagenswest suspension.

Pulled all the glass in my new bus, found the usual fun rust...
Cleaned out the interior...all kinds of junk in there...found a full Craftsman socket set, various tools, enough seats and junk for 3 busses, etc.
On the funny side, anybody want to buy a 80's Smith Corona electric typewriter or a really nice women's Osprey Aether backpack (size xsmall)? Found those in there too! |

i drove the backroads from louisville to lexington and back and got crazy with my nieces and nephew who LOVED the bus.
then my brakes started feeling really wierd on the way back. i stopped near frankfort only to find out my brake fluid was almost gone. bought some and refilled it but the brakes were still wierd the rest of the way home. when i got in sunday the brakes felt fine as i backed down the driveway to move the bus over so my girl could go to work monday. there was a small spot near my front passenger wheel though so i think ive got a small leak. the fluid level is still pretty much where i filled it too in frankfort.
ill be diagnosing the problem sometime this week when i have time and hopefully fixing it next weekend. _________________ "...theres nowhere to go but everywhere." - Kerouac

I did something I've wanted to fix since I got my bus 4 years ago..
I replaced the broken plastic pins in my turn signal switch, so my turn signal will return on its own. I bought a used switch at a show last month, and used the plastic pins from that one to replace the broken ones in my switch. Now she cancels, just like new! _________________ Gordon

I did, about nothing.
All I had planned, I could not do, because I twisted my back.
To, at least do something, I tried to go at the bus inspection.
I just started it, added oil ( I noticed I had water dropplets on the oil stick....what's up, doc ? ).
No luck; Nearby, inspection centers were all booked up on that day. _________________ Stock 1974 US Westy, AW-A 1800cc dual carbs. Twin Falls is my favorite site on the Churchill river in Manitoba. |

OG VELVET, your child is very lucky to be driving around in such a nice Westy! Believe me when I say that he/she will remember the rides for the rest of her life! I'm 18 and still remember many camping trips and rides to school!
As for what I did to my Westy (*the same one I used to drive around in as a kid) this weekend, I took the interior appart and am in the process of getting it ready to get it's engine out. After that its off to the body shop! _________________ "He who makes a beast of himself gets rid of the pain of being a man" - Dr. Johnson |

Replaced the pilot bearing, put the motor back in at the last moment, drove to VW cruise, drove back, took of the exhaust, and took off the passenger side manifold. Tomorrow this manifold will meet a machinist to get things nice and straight. _________________ SST X, XI, XII
