Doheny State Beach, Dana Point, Ca

This is a great venue with BBQ/fire pits, tables, bathrooms, showers, horseshoe pits, surfing, kayaking, biking, tricycling, swimming, kite flying, etc... We can pull right up to the beach and line 15-20 vans up. It's a $10.00 entrance fee, free if you have a state park pass. I'm pretty sure alcohol is O.K. but need to validate that with a state park ranger. The last BBQ went so well I'm hoping we can get an even better turn out for the beach. I'm talking with James (Dogpilot) about coming out and sharing his wealth of information with us. I'd like to possibly do a workshop in the morning like an aux. battery install or something like that. This might be too ambitious for one day but I'm just trying to get a feel for what other people think. I live just up the street so I can get there early and reserve all the spaces for us. I have tentatively planned the event for a Saturday late Sept. or Early-Mid October. Let me know what everyone thinks/suggestions and I will put it together. Looking forward to hearing from everyone.

Meeh. I'll be there, even if I have to tow my van behind my Volvo (which seems likely...) Mad

Nice looking beach, and the kids'll love it, I bet.

Set a date.

Best,

Lanval

[/i]edit Note that I said set a date, 'cause it's much easier to go that way, and have everyone respond, than to try to figure out what works for everyone. Or so it seems to me...

It would be great I am just right down the street as well. There is plenty of parking and it will be great for the kids. You can count me in for doheny beach. [/img]

I'm probably the farthest away in the north, but am still totally game for this. Let's do it!

P.S. Kerry, I checked on that door trim piece and the chrome one that I have is passenger side, so if you want it, it's yours!

I'm probably the farthest east (hah!) but I'll be around for most of Sept. The westy needs some exercise, so I might be down for it so long as no family responsibilities pull me away.

Another idea for something in the Southbay (Torrance) is http://www.rickyandronnies.com/ They do lots of car clubs/cruise nights etc. and are friendly with people milling about in the parking lot, which is also VERY secure.

Here's an idea for a simple two-color logo, keeping everything to a minimum:

Something like this would look nice die-cut about 1/4in off the exterior of the profile.

Kerry:

Not to pass the buck, but I'm in support of you (since you're local to the proposed location) picking a date. I'm fine with basically any time in September, except for from the 19th to the 21st.

Once the date is set, I can work on trying to get someone interesting to give a demo.

The beach thing sounds absolutely great and I will be there too, it may be after a kids morning soccer game if its Saturday, (and I am gone September 29 if it matters.) Regarding the very cool logo, we ucla folks have a little trouble wearing things that say "so cal" especially when done in cardinal !!. add the word westy's or something and make mine blue (I know fussy , fussy..... ) Cheers everyone. already getting tons of super help from this great group.

Well guys, it looks like the first or second weekend in October. I just started work again so I won't be able to post three times a day on how I cranked out my floor in the morning, changed the drive flange oil seal in the afternoon, then washed and waxed the van during sunset...ahh the memories. So tentatively, we'll set it for either Saturday (10/6) or the following Sat. (10/13). My family and I will be moving Sept. 16th so I can't do it before October. I hope everyone can make it. I'll work on the logo a little more and see what we can come up with.

Not a good sticker but I thought this looked really cool. I was trying to make a picture the kids could paint so I can brainwash them to love V.W.s early on.
Now I'm sure most of you guys want to see some round headlights on that van. I just need a good pic.
Doheny sounds great. We get our soccer game schedules for the kids this week so I am hoping for an early game.
Hopefully, with firepits and BBQ's the party will go on late into the night and people can come later in the day if they have previous engagements.

Toro, that image is crazy! It reminds me of my "lost" years. And, yeah, round headlights...always round... Laughing
