I have a 1954 oval. never had a bus. But recently become interested and after several months search I have found this one it is ( if I am not mistaken) 1966 standard 1500. This is maybe obvious but i am new in this. will restore it . Any suggestions and observations would be appreciated .

Suggestion: keep looking.

Observation: that thing is a turd. Hope you didn't pay too much for it.

Yeah, it's a turd by California standards, but we don't know what it's like by Serbian standards.

That logo on the door looks like the logo for Flying Horse Telescope Oil.

California standards has been highest standards ever. You never know what are wet roads with tons of salt on it spilled every half hour and for a 2-3 months a year. That is why my found in Serbia is precious comparable to someones totally rust free in California. On the other hand if my car has noting to work on what is the point. Nevertheless this is what I have and will keep it .Thanks for opinion.

I don't think it is all that bad. A few missing parts, wrong taillights and front bumper, a little rust. Not surprising considering where it came from. It's not that desirable a bus here on the west coast of the USA but For some parts of the world, that is a creampuff.

I'm curious too, about the M-codes. I think with some clean up, interior, and running gear gone through that has a lot of potential. I really like the Mobil logo on the door.

Veskovici, I would make it a runner first, engine, brakes and electrical. Then get a seat and all the missing pieces, and gradually work on the rust spots. I would definitely change the rear tail lights with the correct ones, and remove the three circle things on the nose and get a proper VW emblem there.

But thats just how I would start, small budget style. Wink Good luck on your project, would like to see more pics as it progresses.

That bus dosen't look any worse than mine did when I started in. I agree with karmenbob, get it rolling change the obvious illdated items on it and go from there. That bus could be nice with a lot of work. But thats what makes a project bus. Here's mine after restore. Good luck with yours and enjoy it.
