only reason you need to ground a switch is if you want it to light (if it does light). Not sure what the gw updgrade is but you should run the aux lights off their own relay. You can splice into whatever you want as a trigger wire for the relay, but you shouldn't run them directly off another circuit. _________________ Dave

BTW, what is that sticking out just above the right headlight. Looks like somebody epoxied a beer can to your van. |

I am running a seperate relay for the lights. It just shows the green wire running from the switch to the BRIGHTS but doesn't say if you splice into the wire to trigger the lights or not. Guess I'll try it and see if it works or not.
The switch does light so I will ground that also and see what happens.
Thanks

it depends when/how you want to turn them on. if you get the switch supply from the hi beam wire you'll only be able to turn on the new lights when the hi beams are on. _________________ Dave

Ok, got it to work except for the left light and high beam. Low beams work fine right side highs work fine including the Hella 500, it's just the left side that doesn't work. Fuses are OK.
EDIT: The ground was bad on the left hella so that works now. The left outside HIGH beam is still out checked the bulb looked fine so still scratching on that one. Maybe it's burned out. _________________ 87 Westy

Easy install, here are pics of mine. Great for remote dark roads!
To get the wires in you can just go through one of the many existing holes. grates in the front of the van.

I have to ask, what is that silver deal on the hood above the right side headlight? |

Well, the brackets were going to cost me time. So it was back to my old ways…mounting the Hella lamps directly to the bumper.
The trick is to place them as far forward on the bumper as possible to clear the bumper support metal underneath AND to alleviate shake in having them closer to the bend. Mine are installed extremely tight, being threaded into the bumper drilled hole- then lock washered and nutted from underneath.
The drilling was done BEFORE taking the bumper off.
Some personal tweaks are the use of neoprene washers where bracket meets chrome and vinyl bolt caps at the end of the bracket bolt. Why? The bolt just touches the support metal underneath. The cap keeps the fit both tight and the paint from being marred and eventually rusted.

When I was done and tools picked up a nice, new set of GoWesty door window shade vents were installed. Love these things in the rain! Lets the breeze in but not the rain.
Cheers,
