|
|
Hello, I have a 1776 with an aftermarket autolinea case (thicker webs inside) a berg 1 1/2 sump, full flow with a short filter and a Kymco external oil cooler,
it takes 6 quarts to fill to the full mark on the dip stick.
the breather is mounted above the trans about 5 inches above the valve covers but the oil fill hose to the breather is 3 inches above the breather.
I am getting oil out of the breather when driving,
the engine has about 3 hours on it it was Dynoed and broken it properly.
Do I have to much oil and or is the breather to low?
Thanks Scott.

I dont see a breather?
You might want to run oil to the second line on the stick with the oil sump. |

You may have too much oil. Stock is 2.5 quarts, add the 1.5 sump and that is 4 quarts. The plumbing, cooler and filter may not hold 2 quarts. That after market dip stick is the same one I got and mine wasnt accurate, check it against a stock one. I say drain a quart and see what happens. Another thing to consider is the blow by from the unseated rings. This will cause oil to find the path of least resistance and head there. Hope that helps. |

6 quarts is way to much.
I thought stock capacity was 2 3/4? |

Agreed... 2.5qts + 1.5qts = 4qts. Add a bit more for the filter.
Also until the rings seat you will get blowby. Having the breather only on top of the tranny is not a good idea. You need it higher. _________________ Glenn

X3 to much oil. Also breather is to low.
One other thing I don't see a breather line at the oil filler, you need a vent line there to relieve pressure from the case roof, if you don't have one on the filler neck (only at the valve covers) the vent path will push oil up the push rod tubes and out the valve covers as it flows towards the breather box. |

The Breather Box should be the highest point. If you have a "Vent" line that also drains 3 inches ABOVE the breather, then the breather box is just another storage container - once full it is easier for oil to spill out than it is for the oil to travel UP 3 inches into the vent line. |

Just curious as to how your oil filter bracket fits in the engine bay. I got the correct one that the inlet and outlet actually faces the motor and I still had to grind a little off of the firewall for it to fit. By the way, thats one nice lookin motor. _________________ 57 Ragtop

Thanks for the reply I did not want to hear the box was too low but I know it is true, we were trying to hide everything, the picture shows everything you see after it was installed.
The oil filler line to breather goes stright back through the shroud and down.

Thank You, that is a 3 year build for a friend. 1776cc 96 HP and 112 lb ft of torque @ 2700 RPM.
The filter bracket fit great I was expecting to trim the body but did not have to. It is close though, the car is a 68' and would have more room than an earlier car.
