Is the technology available to make a repro windshield for a car (like my SP2 resto project) that is otherwise impossible to find?

i would start with the glass Co. first, even T34's get a run of glass every two or so years, they might still make them. local and Internet, ask local glass folk first and they might have names and numbers to talk to.
i would also try hemmings motor news , they might have something in there about glass.

The SP2 was made in Brazil. That is where I would start looking for a windshield.

Wow, South Africa. That's quite a ways away from the US, but anyway, there is a large glass outfit on the US east coast, I think Pennsylvania, but I could be wrong. When I was part of the T34 Registry, someone found this outfit and the one person who literally knows the part number of every windshield for every car produced. He knew right away about the T34 and located 6 in the warehouse.

Perhaps check out and ask some questions at the T34 Registry. Someone there will know or be able to point you in the right direction.

If you can figure out the curvature along the top edge and bottom edge of the windshield you may be able to make something fit. Years ago I had a long search for a windshield for a 1976 Lancia Scorpion. The cost of having the glass shipped from Italy to Canada was way out of budget. Instead, a local glass shop took some measurements of the overall size and curves and found that it was a little smaller but otherwise similar in shape to that of a 1981-1990 Ford Escort. That was an easy window to obtain and the glass shop cut it to size.
So, if genuine VW isn't absolutely mandatory... there may be something you can do. My two year wait for a windshield had a quick and simple solution that was remedied in a couple of days.

These guys advertise the front windshield for VW SP-1 and SP-2. $R. 470 (approx $260 US.)

My portugese isn't very good so try using online translator.

Good luck!
