I don't see why all of those can't be powder coated.
just about anything steel can be coated, so I imagine you could get the entire underside & suspension coated if you wanted to go the distance.
pretty pricey though _________________ Cheers,

Halchka99,
I have powder coated everything on my two restorations. As long as your powder coater will cover the proper areas with tape and plugs you should be OK.
I even did my front beam on my 53 Oval. Before it went out for coating I removed the bushings inside. I was afraid the heat may damage them. Plus this was the only way to make sure there was no grease inside the tubes.
Everything came out great.

I coat everything exposed to the elements. Pans, suspension, brake backing plates, drums, whatever. As long as it is prepped well, it will wear like iron. I first used it in 1994 on my vert and I still put mirrors under the car at shows to show it off.
Here's the 63 chassis I'm currently building.

Well no, not yet. But I'm trying to train myself because I know it will be a big deal that I refer to her as "wife" as soon as that happens, which is coming up pretty soon. Lol.

Here is what i had powdercoated in a small oven when i was rebuilding my 36 a few months back.
I later found out that i shouldnt have powdercoated the fan> So i had to have it stripped off. Took a couple days in the hottank to get that stuff off.

The heat will damage the bushings!! Not thinking about it, I had a front beam powdercoated once and the heat shrank the bushing inside. The bushing then would slide in and out of the tube with ease, thus needing to be replaced.
The beam looked awesome, though ... like brand new |

Hi Guys,
I was always concerned that if you powder coated a piece of metal that may have to flex, like say a floor pan, that the powder coating wouldn't be pliable enough to cling to the surface with out cracking and flaking off. Does powder coating have enough flex to it to survive this kind of punishment?
Thanks,

You should also strip the powder from the distributor clamp. Your distributor needs to be grounded, and it grounds through that clamp. _________________

I've the pans of my 64 vert powder coated since 1994. I still put mirrors under the car at shows; it looks that good. No chips, no flakes. _________________ 71 Type 1302 Custom

It's coming along nicely. I didn't powder-coat anything but I did POR-15 a lot of stuff, and of course there's a lot of chrome too.

This thread is a few years old. Am curious as to how the chassis powdercoating is holding up for you guys? Anybody got input that's had 5 or more years wear and tear on their car since having it done?
Chipping and flaking at all? Still glad you did it vs just a good chassis paint? |
