Hey gang,

I tried this over in the Bay Window forum, but no takers. I pulled this cylinder head temp gauge today, from a Bay Window Westy. So is this an actual VW gauge? Fake? Aftermarket? OEM?

Here's the pic: http://picasaweb.google.com/Lanval.de.logres/OldVWGauge

The bezel is chrome steel (i.e. heavy); neither the back of the bezel nor the gauge have any markings that I can see. I'll post a pic of the back later.

Any help?

Best,

Lanval

Just aftermarket. I think JC Whitney sold those.

In the years I've spent working on Beetles, Buses, Vanagons, and my Military 181 (Thing), I have never seen nor heard of a VW issued cylinder head temp gauge, not even a dealer optioned unit.

Aftermarket.

It has the interesting characteristic of being professionally made, but the writing is somehow 'off' ~ and I would've expected VDO to be the mfg.

I would be tremendously surprised though, if VW allowed anyone to use it's name. Oh well; the bezel is gonna get used, though. I wired in my 2nd voltmeter for the aux battery, with switch. Needed a bezel, and here it is.

Thanks guys.

Best,

Lanval
