They look pretty much like rubber hoses. What are you looking for?

Mine is a late model and will be different in detail, but basically there is a pair of hoses leading from inside the car at the bottom of the fresh air box through the front partition and out under the gas tank. I'm not sure what you are looking for and why? Are yours rusted and gone?

On the late models one hose goes up to the water tray -- above the fresh air box on the passenger side-- the other (short hose) goes to the fresh air box (fan), then both go out the thru holes just under the gas tank - On mine the hose is/was flush with the metal firewall. 95% of the watter should be flowing thru the long hose.

The hose is bi-sexual -- the tops connecting to the fresh air box & water tray are female -- the other ends going thru the firewall are male.

Just wanted insight before I took those hoses off. When it rains I get a little run of water on the firewall, so I taped over the vents and it stopped. So now I am going to remove the hoses to clean and or replace if needed. Is the actual vent box easy to remove? Also can you actually clean the vent box out once removed?

I removed once the drain boxes of my '70 fasty. It was quite an ordeal removing those drains boxes. As far as I can rememberit, you have to remove the entire wiper assembly before you can remove the two drain boxes.

Furthermore, if the screws holding the drain boxes on are already rusted, another ordeal is waiting!

Plus the fact that you have to use a flashlight to see things clearly from under your dashboard.

And, be sure to wear a pair of protective eye glasses to protect your eyes from falling dirts, dust, rust and other elements.

But, I may say, these are part of the Type 3-holic!

on my 72 -- I think/hope the wipers came out after the airbox, cause I'm putting it back togeather, and the wipers are in -- the airbox is still out.... I didn't find it too hard - mine was held in with 4 allen head cap screws.

The 69 doesn't have a fan - so you won't have any electrical to deal with.

Either pull the freshair vent controls, or pull the control wires off the vent controls --

pull the radio if you have one there

Now get an allen wrench on the end of a bunch of socket extenders --

Pulling the airbox is the only way to get into the watertray to pull out the big hunks of garbage (read leaves), Unless like my fasty (and the parts car I just got) - they are totally rusted through on the firewall end Sad ----

once you get in there -- check for leaks -- not from the hoses, but rather rust holes from around the watertray/firewall. I shine a bright light down thru the air holes on the outside of the car. Go under the dash and look up for pin-point light areas. If you are unlucky enough to find holes here, the restoration is not something I would look forward to --- fairly easy to do a hack job -- tough to impossible to get it back to stock.

I've worked on a '69. You'll have to pull the wipers to get them out.
First I would try sucking all the crap out with a high-power vacuum, such as the ones at the car wash. Use a screwdriver or something to stir it around while you suck. It went in through those louvers so it can come back out.
If you just pull the hoses off the bottom of the boxes then you can run a stiff wire down them to clean them out. I have an old radio antenna with the little ball on the end. It works great.
If the hoses are bad then it's no big deal to replace them with any old rubber or vinyl hose of the right diameter.

I bought some clear vinyl [water] hose from Lowe's. ID was a little smaller than the box, but just heat it up with a heat gun and stretch it over the box drain. To remove the boxes you need to remove your radio and wiper motor/arm assembly. The boxes are mounted under the dash with 4 small nut assemblies ea. Just be ready to lie on your back and do a little contorting.

What he really means is "Just be be ready to hang upside down under your dash swearing profusely until you have a stroke due to all of your blood pooling in your head."

Been there, done that, head hurt from the blood rush. Twisted Evil

Also while your in there, check and lube your wiper assy. and ALL
linkage. I did mine and replaced a linkage part because when the wipers were on they would make a clunking noise.

Have fun trying to find a seal for the airbox!! Mad

Safety glasses is a must when under the dash. I removed my front seats so I could lay down. It is a little more work but my feet were not higher than my head Wink

If you do decide to remove them this is what I did. Carefully removed all hardware and the seals, sand blasted them, two coats of POR 15 (or similiar) then I blasted mine again and epoxy primed/painted them since the POR 15 is UV unstable. Should last another 40 years.

Except that his '69 should have plastic boxes instead of steel. Solved the rust problem, but doesn't hold up to well when sandblasted.
