That is our buddy Ray in Denton, Texas.
He always finds some sweet buses and delivers a pretty nice finished product, but you do pay for what you get. I am OK with that.
What is your point anyway? |

That is a very clean westfalia, and hey, they aren't making these anymore. The values are really starting to go up and people will pay what they will pay if interested. _________________ Your car may do 0-60 in under 5 seconds, but can it sleep 4 and cook a meal?

heaven's to betsy, sakes alive. guess i have to re-think the value of my original paint 75, and remind everyone that once upon a time someone paid 99k for a bus. final price: 16,3. _________________ When you cross an Irishman, they never forget. I mean, never. |

Hey, don't let it rise before I get a good one!
But anyway, the market is rising alot now, you see alot of buses ak 8k and up. But, I think that alot of those are overpriced. I've seen lots of overpriced buses lately, and it makes me think there getting expensive. |

the key to getting the big bucks is to be able to say "original miles" and have it be in the five figure range. also it must be stock, clean, complete and need nothing. also helps if its a camper... the big bidders make money obviously, but dont care so much to tinker endlessly. so they will not bid high on "a can of worms". i have been watching ebay auctions now for about a year, trying to figure out bidding habits, and find that the high bid auctions all have those qualities in common |

Yeah, you can see the expensive ones are all shiny and complete, but I see potential in anyting in the 4k range. |

Yeah, it's initially expensive, but if you're not looking to constantly be dropping engines, pulling transmissions, dealing with rust issues, etc...it's really not a bad deal if you have the dimes...
Think about how much you'd spend bringing a basketcase up to that level (I know, I'm doing it right now). Personally, thats the fun for me, but if you just want a nice bus to motor around in, that might be the way to go. _________________ Wanted - Dormobile Roof Parts! |

But what are you paying for? In the 4k range you can usually find something that runs great, and has minimal rust. Everything else is just cosmetic. |

Price professional bodywork and paint lately?
Our old VWs are like any other collectible in that they are worth exactly what someone is willing to pay and the market varies as the demand rises and falls not only with rarity but with fashion. Right now the old buses are hot along with a lot of other '70's memorabilia. If a really nice antique vehicle is what you are looking for it's been my experience that unless you are a good mechanic/bodyman/painter, with a solid knowledge base and lot of time to devote to a project, than it is often cheaper (and certainly easier), in the long run to spend more up front when buying especially if you put any value on your time.
Of course I don't think that's what the majority of us here are looking for. Like autiger78 says I think most of us posting here not only appreciate these old buses but enjoy getting our hands dirty bringing them back to life - or at least keeping them on the road as much as possible. |

I didn't see any pics of the engine.. and think it said it was original. So, IMO that's quite a bit of money for an engine that may or may not last 20K. But the body is sweet and so is the interior.
I'd rather spend 5K on a decent one.. 2K on body and paint.. and that leaves a ton left for a Raby Camper turnkey and then you KNOW what you've got for your 16Gs. Maybe refurb the tranny and gas tank and you're set!!! _________________ Owner of: "The Party Pickle" (a 1979 2 Liter FI "Raby Camper Special" Sage Green Westy Campmobile) & "Charlie Brown" (a 1979 2 Liter FI "Rob Grant Rebuild" Agate Brown/Dakota Beige Station Wagon)

At this price it would be a steal here in Europe...
You could see these prices in Euro's (1E = 1,4$) and then add some... _________________ 1978 T2b ASI Riviera Plan I // Camper Special with MegaSquirt & EDIS // 091 with 5.14 R/P and Peloquins LSD

I too thought that it was unusual to not have any pictures of the engine or the underside of the Bus. I also noticed the over sprayed paint on the front of the Bus and thought that should have been cleaned up. But, it was a nice Bus judging from the pictures and the seller definitely knows how to write an ad! _________________ Never drive faster than your Angel can fly

two very expensive words. just try it sometime and then you will know. and all those chemical are known to cause brain damage, so there are hidden costs. you will lose your memory, and be stupid for quite a while.

they didn't. that whole thing was a mess and the bus sold for a LOT less. the auction company covered the difference to the original seller.

i really wish that mr. hair would stop using that inaccurate sales pitch in his auctions.
i did recognize a few parts on the 74. _________________ thebucket: I invested in hoodride, now DBD won't return my call?

nonetheless, i learned "The increased demand for vintage Deluxe Westfalia Campmobiles has led to an upsurge in value." 66...74.. what's the difference.
another ending where the buyer is happily ever auctiOwned.
the reason that awning was never used is because its dysfunctional. jeez, the z-bed is blazed and beat. you know i ain't sleepin' on that thing.
still calling the insurance co after this sale: i've got mine under-valued at 5 or 6k whereas i should be calling attention to his 10k warp in that poptop, plus add a few bills for the original, low mileage orange gas cap/electric outlet flap. if mr. hair finds some such sweet buses, someone tell me - how come they're often painted top to bottom like a hell's kitchen ho _________________ When you cross an Irishman, they never forget. ... take a look on here at the prices in the UK:
http://uk.dubfinder.com/new/Frame2.htm
The most expensive one advertised is around $30k!
Perhaps you'll understand why so many US buses are heading over this side of the Atlantic. |

10 years ago it was "oh you have a bay not a split window" now it's "you've got a vw van cool!". I think were in for an escalation in prices. |

The high cost of imported bay campers in the UK reflects the overheads to get them here,a typical breakdown;-
cost of camper $7000 (£3550 approx)
cost of shipping $1200 (£630 '' )
bank charges $100 (£45 '' )
UK handling (£385 '' )
import duty (£50 )
vat17.5% (£1125)
transport from docks (£300 )
total £6085
And you have probably bought it from some snap shots and the word of
the seller as to its condition,so you inevitably find you need to do some thing to it,thats beside getting it Motd. where at the very least the lights need changing .and registered. If your buying to sell it can soon become an£8000 ($15500) camper _________________ PREVIOUSLY OWNED
