with lead though, now that's a treat!
Very cool toaster, but it would have to go in the garage at my house. _________________ It's not how wide your hatch is, it's what you do with it.

I officially have one of these now on the way from Japan, and have a lot more information on them. They were a promotional item to celebrate vw 1 year in Japan, and were originally given to new car buyers, and eventually your name was entered into a drawing with a chance to win one with a vehicle inspection- they come in both red and blue, the red being more common, and a number were packaged with a volkswagon bus kleenex dispenser that is a plush bus.Information from 2 sources confirm that much, but as for numbers I have heard both 1,000 and 5,000 of them. I suspect there may be 1,000 blue and 5,000 red. I have pics of the box, instructions, and toaster at various angles, and will attempt to get one of the kleenex dispenser for this forum. For the price of one however, be warned that you should probably be able to drive it to the store and buy toast.I believe that the reason there's not yet one on ebay is that getting them is too tricky and expensive to hope to turn any real profit on it. |

Also, to top off everything else, these will not be plug and play, they're wired for 100volt standard japanese electrical, so if you get one, make sure to buy a japanese wall adapter if you plan on actually using it, or you will probably ruin the unit.
And here's the kleenex dispenser bus I mentioned before:

In answer to the messages I've gotten on this, I've purchased the toaster from a friend in Japan, who has a nice singlecab and does fantastic enginework. If I can angle a second one, this one will be on ebay by the end of the month, and under someone's christmas tree this year. |

The split bus toaster from the photos is now officially on ebay, though it may take a few hours to become searchable.

I would love that toaster! $50 opening bid? Seems high. Im' curious to see where it will end. I'd also be a bit concerned with seller's small sales and relatively low feedback, but that's just me. _________________

That would be the vaticanwagen toaster, but a fantastic idea nonetheless. It should show the stigmata and say "air-cooled"
I just checked into plugging it in here, and everything I've found on using the 100volt japanese appliances in US plugs says that it's okay. Here's an in depth thing I found on it: http://ask.metafilter.com/69039/Using-a-US-powerstrip-in-Japan _________________ Build a man a fire, and he'll stay warm for a day...set a man on fire, and he'll stay warm the rest of his life. |

And up to 41 watchers. It struck me today how it'd be an ironic twist if the winner wasn't a bus person at all, but instead, a toaster collector. _________________ Build a man a fire, and he'll stay warm for a day...set a man on fire, and he'll stay warm the rest of his life. |
