Last night I pulled into Tumalo state park near Bend, OR at 1:00 am (Seattle > Yakima > Bend - "no services for 94 miles" after crossing the Columbia River, the scenic route Smile) expecting to easily find a campsite. Unfortunately it was full. I opened the iOverlander app and it led me directly to nearby camp options (one in a nearby industrial park, several in the nearby NF). By 2:00 am I was well settled and enjoying the evening's Manhattan.

I think I heard about iOverlander here.

Do folks know of other apps that are helpful in finding reliable camp spots, preferably those not part of campgrounds/rv parks.

Thanks.

The campsite. The front tire is airborne but the van is level. Very Happy

This the one I use more often then not. Found it to be very accurate plus it will link you onto Google Maps to get there.

I’ve been more than underwhelmed by computer maps, but I was impressed by iOverlander when a British couple demonstrated it to me at the Adventure Van Expo. I may need to reconsider.

Cool. This is a bit clunky but I saw a few spots not included in iOverlander (in a few spot checks). Checking a few apps will yield the best dispersed/stealth campsite locations.

This looks like a winner. Nice functionality. Has some spots not included in iOverlander and vice versa.

Agreed. Most map apps for phones, tablets or even PCs lose key map elements when zooming out. I love looking at secondary, tertiary and little used USFS (2, 3 and 4 digit) roads but they disappear from most electronic maps when zooming out.

I've just started playing with OsmAnd maps and selecting the off-road or touring feature and 25% magnifier offers the best detail I've seen. Gaia maps is also better than many.

This is a map of mostly forest service roads in north central WA, possibly the best detail I've seen in a map...
