this might sound like a dumb question but here it goes......does anyone know if there is a difference between early(BD), and later heater tubes front side diameter????...how about the forward and the rear chassis crossbrace hole diameter where the heater tube passes thru??????I have some clients that are telling me that the tube is too large, too small...etc...I have an NOS chassis crossbrace, and the diameter is 7cm........any help would be greatly appreciated....... _________________ that's not patina, that's fucking rust man!!!!

Hi,
Rear is 3" (7.7mm)hole in cross member and front is 2.75" (7cm)in crossmember. These are taken from panels made by someone else that i believe to be correct. When i fitted these exact panels to the 52 and they seemed to tally with the original heater tube i refitted(undamaged and for the most part not rusty) which was tapered from one end to the other too.
I dont know if later Bd had the non tapered version as in post 55 vans.
I will take try and take some measurements from the original heater tube if it helps.
I would be interested in the year question too as it may be me who has the wrong panels.
Thanks for the panels
Cheers

The heater tube is tapered needing the dimensions you say. This is correct for 53,54. As I don't have an earlier bus I can't tell you about other years. |

the feet on later heater tubes are angled, aren't they
feet on earlier buses go straight down? _________________ -StockRocks- |

Not sure which parts you mean by "feet", Do you mean the 2 welded on clips that hold the front flexy pipe on?
When i assembled my van i could not figure how they would have assembled originally as with the two clips on the tube it will not go through the front centre chassis hole and the chassis section cant be slid on from the other end as the tube is too fat, so may be clips added after?
So 52-54 is tapered (possibly 8cm to 7cm across its length), im not sure my 51 has any left to check, some one will know im sure. I assume it was a slight attempt to increase the air speed in the cab as it comes out the vents? |

so where do we stand with the measurements????the heater tube hole in my NOS rear chassis crossbrace is 7cm, I assume this is the same for all years...the front would then be 6.5cm for 1950, 51, 52...and different for 53, 54, 55 ?????? does this sound right????? _________________ that's not patina, that's fucking rust man!!!!

Not sure exactly where we are with the measurements if you have an Nos rear at 7cm, but is it possible the Nos one could be a later one?? I really dont know.
Im saying that rear is 77mm and front is 70mm hole and between Duncan and myself we have heater tubes in a 52, 53 and 54 that reflect this size.
My 80mm mention in my last post was just an assumption based on the fact the tube sticks out past the chassis cross centre.
A few more people need to measure up to be sure i guess with Og heater tubes.
The front hole and heater tube diameter is 70mm just to confirm.
Cheers

Hi Gerson,
After looking at a picture of an nos bd rear cross member i have here, i think- and i could be wrong as i often can be but i think that rear cross member in your picture is not a Bd one. The hole size, cut out and a missing cut out point to it being possibly a later one.
On the picture i have the hole is defiantly around 1/2 cm either side nearer the edges.
Cheers

Mark, you guys are right on the heater tube/chassis crossbrace issue....I just went through my pile of cut up BD parts, and I found a rear and a front crossbrace with pieces of the og heater tube still attached, the rear is 7.7cm, and the front is 7.0cm , you are correct, the NOS rear chassis crossbrace that I have is a post BD piece....I am glad this issue is solved, the correct parts will be included in Chris's next shipment.....now, on to the next BD parts mistery ....I tell you, this never ends, learn soemthing new every day..... _________________ that's not patina, that's fucking rust man!!!!

Glad to of helped. The amount of changes 50-53, small differences in the frame and panels is amazing. May be there should be a thread just for these.
