Do "bugs" and "things" both use the same size lug bolts? If so I'm needing to find some in chrome.

Yes, early Beetle and Thing use the same lugs, 12mm. Here's a link...

When you say early beetle what years do you mean? before 71?

1967 and earlier. They had the same lugs and bolt pattern ("Wide five") as all Things and used 12mm bolts.
