Installed the driver's side grab handle I've had in the basement for over a year. Very useful mod, and no big deal drilling the holes as long as you're careful of the wire bundle in the A-pillar. An hour very well spent.

That is on my to do list got an extra. What size drill bit did you use?

Thanks,
Rory

took off the pop top and cleaned it inside and out. the bleach + water trick on the inside "fuzz" works amazingly! so clean now. now i am going to attach the new canvas and if the rain quits, i'll have the top back on today!

I wanted to do the same wheel, but my current Grant GT wheel is the same size...I'd like bigger if I change because I can't see my temp gauge well and I have manual steering with the big Go Westy Wheels/Tires. Thinking 16.5" Eurovan wheel but I REALLY like the GTI Wheel.

"What size drill bit did you use? "

I removed the existing right-side handle and made a template for locating the holes, then marked the left A-pillar with that, then drilled 1/8" pilot holes first, then 1/4" holes and probed around for the wire bundle, and finally 7/16" holes to fit the plastic wedge pieces into. Just make sure you aren't leaning too hard on the drill as it goes through the metal, as you do not want to damage the wire bundle. It can be difficult to stop short.

I haven't driven it yet, except around the block, but I have had the same concern. I was hoping it wouldn't block my view of the dash to much, but I guess we'll see.

they are actually silver. I ordered the sticker templates from Brent Weide, a Portland Vanagonite. I printed them onto clear self-adhesive paper and stuck them to the gauges (which I spray painted silver). The self-adhesive paper (stickers) do not stick well to the painted faces. There are companies out there that will do a much better job than I did. TristarEric had a pretty sweet set-up in his Tristar STi, but I don't remember where he got ordered them.

What model Van is that? Cargo transporter? With windows in the cargo compartment? Can you post more photos?

Use a drill bit stop collar to be sure that you do stop before you drill into those wires.

I didn't take any precautions, just took a hose and went at it, then lots of simple green and repeat til it was nice and clean. It started right up after. I've heard of people covering the rotor and a couple of things with a ziplock but I didn't. Confused

Totes mechanical virgin here. Had some very strange electrical problems like headlights wouldn't turn off and keyless entry wouldn't work. After much Samba perusing I narrowed it down to the ignition switch or demons. Downloaded pictures provided by Ben (thanks!) and had phone backup from Dogpilot (thanks!) and had at 'er. Took me a couple of hours but I managed to install the new switch. All is good again. Could never have done it without The Samba.

Added a (high speed) radiator fan switch that can be turned on/off from the driver's seat. Really helps the oil temps of my IDI diesel chug up mountain passes.

Ummm...I think the NUMBER OF TURNS should be the same but your EFFORT will be more than normal...??? Still, looks nice. Maybe a smaller wheel would keep me from getting my legs jammed between the floor & the wheel...interesting...

plus some small tweaks on the interior and minor paintwork in the rear.

also took the van for a spin and snapped a few picturs, even though the car is missing a few bits and pieces (rear bumper trim among others).
