We replaced the bulb of the map light with a dollar store LED cupboard light.
The map light has been broken since we bought the van. The casing was in two pieces and the bulb missing.
Finally got around to super gluing the plastic bits and upgrading it a bit.
The LED circuit is constant current so it works fine with the van's 12v system.
We made sure to do the upgrade in a 100% reversible fashion just in case someone in the future really wanted an incandescent bulb there again.
The cut red bodge wire was an attempt to bypass the reed switch used to turn on/off the LED. But we miscalculated, not realizing the switch was normal closed (closed = LED off). Noticed that mistake after everything was attached, so rather than take it all apart we just cut the wire.

Oh Man! The sharks are circling my Mefro's. Right now I plan to keep them. Be hard to ship with the KO2's on them anyway. _________________ 1989 Syncro Westfalia (bought new) sold

Although warm right now, really warm for us in early November, it was time to install the Snow Tires. I tried 3 different Rustoleum Silver paints tonight for rim touch up.
The 2X Rustoleum Metallic Silver was actually pretty close, a bit too much flake in the paint, but for a quick touch up, not bad actually. The other two were too grey or chrome.
I’ll order some other Silver Paints next week like Argent Silver to try. _________________ '68 Westy- my first VW and vehicle/Bus- long gone.- sold it to a traveling Swiss couple....

That isn't a drain fitting. That is the factory fuel pressure test tap. _________________ Steve

My wife is recovering the front seats.
It was time
The van has had cheap one-size-fits-all covers since we bought it.
But recovering seats was a scary project. It turned out to be much easier than expected.
First time we've tried this and it was basically free.
Pretty happy with the results.

My wife tweeked the pattern a bit (will update the first one soon).
But we now have an updated matched set back in the van.
I love that the patterned vynl is from an early 1980's table cloth my wife's family used when she was young.

Finished the denim blinds. Now a full set.
The last ones were for the sliding door and I'm very happy with how they turned out.

Washed and waxed the Vanagon. Finished pairing a Tire Pressure Sensor system for the Vanagon that a friend gave me as a gift.
It works , reads pressure and tire temp for each tire.
Solar cell for power or micro USB . Still debating on where to mount the unit on the dash. _________________ '68 Westy- my first VW and vehicle/Bus- long gone.- sold it to a traveling Swiss couple....

I really like the idea of roll up curtains. I think that makes for a cleaner stowaway. _________________ '87 Syncro

We used them camping this weekend and they worked great.
Easy to stow, easy to deploy (gravity!)
I'm really happy with them. |

Removed the front windshield to take care of rust.
I got lucky and there are no holes.
So, this will just be grind away the rust then prime and paint.
I was able to use a dremel wire wheel to cut through most of the rust.
Vacuumed it up with the shop vac and it's looking pretty good already.
I doubt I'll be so lucky on the back.
