Fitted LED headlight bulbs (Torchbeam T2 9004) from Amazon:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07T1QKLXY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Big improvement over the regular bulbs, and they don't seem to dazzle oncoming drivers.

We're these a direct plug n' play install or did you have to change the base? Might be worth trying.

Apologized to it for thinking it was leaking gas and freaking out about it. Turns out it was my neighbor's Beetle Turbo GSR that had a fuel line chewed on by pesky critters, was leaking fuel copiously a hundred feet away, and I wound up working on it instead of on my own VW.

Yes, plug and play. A doddle to fit - remove locking ring, remove old bulb, insert new one, refit locking ring and plug into old connector.

I'm disappointed they all seem to be 6000K or 6500K - far too 'blue' a light for me at night-time. That also doesn't help peripheral vision when it's dark.

It seems to be 'the fashion' though, sigh.

Alt belt had chirped a bit this morning on startup, ~4.5C in garage overnight.....

it settled out in a couple seconds...

(wait for it now)

Then on the way home, after a stop at the grocery store, it chirped more for 4 or 5 seconds.

Then at the last stop light it really chirped, and then ---ta-daaaa! Red lights on dash!! Bingo, belt blew. Sad really, no more than 3K miles on Napa's premium belt.

So, in a 12 miles drive, it went from just a little chirp to completely tore up.

And, guess what?!?!? it ripped off the PS and A/C belts just for spite.

So, moved bedding, groceries, got out tools from under the bench, and on the side of the road, only 100 yards from the intersection where literally 300 cars went by, I replaced the Alt and PS belts. Nobody pulled over, and I am very certain at least half of them had seen me wave to them on the road over the years. Then again, I guess it only took me 10 minutes.

Noticed more flex in the alternator bracket than I remember. Maybe I've got to dig deeper for a cause of this flex, as that certainly would stress a belt. I know I have seen a TON of posts about better brackets and or broken brackets.

At least I didn't just keep driving saying to myself "It's only 4 miles, that's not too far, right? (wrong)"

added switchback LED bulbs on the front indicators, that means, I have extra position lights at the same time i have indicators,

video of how all the LED front set up looks like

https://i.imgur.com/xYcmGo5.mp4

next step would be convert them to driving lights that turn off when I put position lights on. I'll leave that for the future.. enough time and money invested in the lights!

how to:

throw a cable from the position light cable

take it out through the indicator wiring rubber

plug all the wiring to a double lamp holder

That RED snap on connector is just asking for trouble down the road.
They work, but they allow moisture to get in under the insulation and corrode the wiring.
Stereo shops and UHaul shops use them all the time. They are just a mistake to use.

What's your recommendation for a wire tap?

https://www.motorcycle.com/how-to/mo-wrenching-how-to-properly-splice-wires

FWIW...if not willing to strip & solder, for any connection outside the shell of the van
I'd at least look for something designed weatherproof for wet conditions:
