I installed a speedisleeve on the trans ouput hub and then drove down to Basye VA for some lift access downhill mountain biking and when I got back I looked under the van. Still leaking! I installed a new seal there (last fall maybe) and it started leaking after this past July. Now with a speedi sleeve there was no change and it is leaking exactly the same as before.
I dunno. I guess I will replace the seal. Annoying.

Wher I did the speedisleeve on those I also replaced the seal at the same time. No leaks.
My guess was that the seal needed replacing since it was likely damaged by the output flange rough surface. _________________ Dave O

OK, sounds like that's what I need to do. I didn't change it, because the surface was in good shape so I assumed it just wasn't a big enough OD having read many threads on the size difference / lack of QC. Thanks. _________________ '87 Syncro

Very cool storage chair! I love the VW badge.
What's your latch on the table for? _________________ 1991 Tiico Vanagon Carat

Thanks!
The latch holds the table in place while stored. It's OEM as far as I know. _________________ 1988 Vanagon Wolfsburg Tin-Top - "Elmo" |

Interesting, I've just got a spring loaded nub on the underside of my table. I love learning about the little things that were changed year to year! _________________ 1991 Tiico Vanagon Carat

Interesting. Thanks for the information.
When I bought it, I wondered why it was so new looking. I never thought to ask the PO as it really didn't concern me at the time. Now you've just given me another project....to see what went wrong with the factory latch. _________________ 1988 Vanagon Wolfsburg Tin-Top - "Elmo" |

Oh, fair point! I was too amped to wait to share it. Though actually having possession of the part for the work in question has to count for something...?
Anyway, I'll be sure to follow up as soon as it's in. It's such an awesome looking alternative to the original stereo. I'm a huge fan of boxy 80's styling. _________________ 1990 Vanagon Westfalia |

Apparently GoWesty sells that screen door latch as an alternate table latch !?!?!
Talk about falling flat on your face!
Here is the proper latch,
https://www.busdepot.com/255070306a
Some have used velcro or strong magnetic cabinet latches. Both of these alternates are hidden out of sight.

What a difference. I thought the latch was a tad oversized, but there are so many other things that puzzled me as to why they (VW) did what they did, I just added this one to the list (albeit incorrectly).
Thanks for the BD link. I will have to see what kind of holes I would leave behind and possibly replace that ugly latch. _________________ 1988 Vanagon Wolfsburg Tin-Top - "Elmo" |

I finally got around to putting some left-over vinyl click-together flooring in. I still need to get a threshold, but I think it looks pretty good.

Nice job! Did the same to mine a couple months ago. It’s very similar to yours. You can see a small portion of it a few posts up. _________________ 1988 Vanagon Wolfsburg Tin-Top - "Elmo" |

Good job on yours, too. It was actually seeing your pic that finally gave me the inspiration to do my floor! _________________ '73 Super Beetle (resto-mod/rally look, 1776)

Bolted on the $99 NAPA awning using Van Cafe/RMW brackets with a couple extra holes drilled

Crazy thing. Saw a vanagon on Kijiji. liked it and liked the owner. Made a deal sight unseen. Flew to Victoria BC and I am presently driving it across Canada. Will be home in Toronto tomorrow.
I drove it! A lot! |
